Need 84 vin tag and title for a new project

Does anyone one know if the state will give a new vin tag for a 84 blazer tub. I found one thats super clean and the guy cant find the vin tag for it. he took it off cause he shot blast the entire dash area and now he cant find it.

It's a federal crime to remove a VIN tag so my guess is NO, no chance of getting another one. They are also put on with special rivets so if it ever needs inspection they would know right away if it has been tampered with.

4x4high is correct the rivets they use are rosebud rivets anything that has been tampered with like VIN's is a huge offence if caught... now i dont know if you could get it federally, state inspected and VI'd to get a new VIN assigned to you...?

Simply removing the rivets and the tag are not ILLEGAL.

However replacing one with another is the issue. The vin is not only on the dash tag.

You may take the time to contact your local DMV. Some states allow a "body swap" if the title and proper paper work are included for both vehicles.

That being said plenty of people have done and probably will continue to do what you "might do".

I have dealt with something similiar in a body swap situation. Legally you have to use a new VIN in Utah when doing a body swap, so my dad had his 74 Furd inspected and was issued a new VIN by the state. He then only had to remove the old VIN tags and rivet the new one to the firewall. Many states allow this to happen, but you must have title to both vehicles. If you don't have the title to the one you need a VIN for, you may be out of luck.

nope not yet, Trying to see what the dmv says, do u guys know where the vin number is at besides the dash tag, I.E. maybe one of the rear quarters????
