Wanted to know what kind of fan clutches you guys are using? I need on for my 83 k5 TBI from a 1992 silverado 5.7. any sugestions would be great!!

You need to be REAL CLEAR if you're running the serp or V belt since the clutch is different because of the reverse rotation on a serp setup. The engine may be from a 92 Silverado but you might not be using the serp setup. Remember that the water pump is also different along with the fan itself.

is there a particular brand or model that is more efficient than another. or heavy duty model

Then it needs to be 1989 or newer.

Still need to be careful the fan clutch application is serpentine. For example; I'd be inclined to get one for a heavy duty truck BUT all the later "V" series trucks I've seen still had the v-belt set up.

You sure? Not sure if its the norm, or if its the stock motor, but my 91 350 tbi/4l80e setup is serp belt.

Interesting... My 91 K5 (light duty w/ 350) came with a serp set up while my 91 V3500 (3+3 w/ 350) came with the combo multi groove and v-belt set up. I also have a friend that had an 89 V3500 (3+3 w/ 350) with the same combo belt set up.

Is yours a 1500 or 2500? Maybe it's a passenger "car" (Sub/K5) vs a pick up thing? :dunno:

Mines a 2500, but im pretty sure its a crate motor. So how knows :haha:

God i wish things like motor/trans work would be etched in the firewall or something for record. Mainly because i am too lazy to run the numbers off the block. :D

Oh, and serp has its problems too. Last belt i threw ALMOST ate through the electrical connector on my AC compressor:mad:

My 89 blazer was bone stock when i bought it and it came with serp belt. Regardless i've already told the OP that he needs to be sure if it is for V or serp setup and also that the water pump and fan are different as well because of reverse rotation.

That's all good, I'm just making sure he knows not all 89+ stuff is the same.

Something else to consider, don't know if your aware but, aside the previous discussion ,clutch fans differ depending on your current gear ratio.

Good point, my current standard rotation clutch is for a 454 w/ 4.56 gear application.

Never heard of that before but i'm guessing it has to do with how many blades the fan has?

Im sure A.C. had a bunch to do with it as well. Mine is factory a/c and is a 6 blade.

The big gear ratio clutch holds a little longer before it releases.

mine is factory 3/4 ton...edit and 3.73 geared from the factory...

Yeah, mine is obviously a 1/2 ton being a blazer and was factory 3.73 geared.

my fan has 5-blades, but I have regeared to 4:10's. so do you guys recommend that I go with what ever stock clutch they have at the auto parts?
