good morning, things have started to slow down a bit for me. Tired a look at my old trucks rust away. been about a year to three years since I have done anything with these. So first up is a 98 Chevy C 1500. I had a bad front end collision wiped out the front. That's all replace. Finally after a lot of time I got the airbags in. Before I did the airbags I ran for little while seem to run great. Now it seems like it wants to starts up for a second or two and shuts off. Every time. The fuel pump was new about four years ago. That truck has been sitting two years now.

This is a bit of an odd one. It is a 1987 M1028 with Hydro boost. I have a squishy brake pedal for some reason. I went all over the truck under it, engine bay, front to back. I can not find any leak.

Last but not least. Is a 1984 M1009. the transmission went bad. I found a decent deal on SM465 out of a civilian Blazer. Brand-new clutch and flywheel. Hydraulic parts are new. Truck has 0 miles on the new clutch. I'm not sure what to think about the clutch. After a lot that pedal all the way out then it seems to engage a bit. Never ran it so I'm not sure. I bled the line 3 different times. Still the same thing

Any help would be great guys. Thanks a lot have a good Saturday

The M1028 might have a rubber brake hose that is soft from sitting and is "ballooning" when you step on the pedal..could just be air in the lines too,if your sure there is no leaks--sometimes a master cylinder can go bad from sitting, the seals can soften up or get hard and cause that too..

I'm not much help on hydraulic clutches,I do know they can be difficult to get bled though..I've used a vacuum pump type brake bleeder to bleed the system or a vacuum line off a running gas engine with a "catch can" in line to keep the fluid from getting sucked into the engine to bleed stubborn ones..

I'm also not very experienced on "newer" truck after 1988 or so,but I have read here quite a few trucks with the fuel pump in the gas tank have had a short piece of rubber hose that connects the pump to the sending unit fuel feed pipe split open, and that can cause that..

Good luck..

its a starting point. m1028 ill check the rubber lines.
thanks ill give it a try

Best advice I can give is to Pick One!

Trying to do repairs on three different trucks at the same time is an exercise in futility.
Doesn't matter which one you pick, or why. Just determine which one you want running first, and at what point you consider it done. You will almost never "finish" an old truck like that, but pick a point at which you are happy and can turn to the next one.

I suggest road worthy, trustworthy, safe to drive, and body work good enough that you don't get sick to your stomach when you go to get in it.
Then park it somewhere that it won't get damaged, and start on the next one. Be sure to drive it from time to time. For instance use it to get parts for the next project.

As for the '98, its fairly old to have an antitheft system, but if it does, that sounds like its not recognizing the key. If it were a lot older, I would think the ballast resistor was burned out, in this case, maybe the ignition switch might have a problem, letting it only run in the start position.

As for the '87, sounds like air in the brake lines. Just because they are hydraulically boosted, does not mean the basics don't still apply.

And as for the '84, air in the clutch lines will usually cause it to Not disengage. Failing to engage is usually an adjustment problem. Most clutches have an adjustment somewhere. Not sure about yours, but a lot of them have an adjustable plunger on the slave cylinder. Or the pedal might not be releasing the master cylinder all the way.
The master cylinder plunger must release far enough for the piston to uncover the line port. If it does not, it will maintain pressure on the system.

yes I realize that this is a little much. I ordered the three rubber brake lines for the 87. They are hard as a rock. Talking to a friend his truck was a master cylinder. Have that coming to.

Ordered a new hydraulic clutch cylinder. For the 84. I bled them for a fourth time still the same problem,. truck has been sitting a while maybe went bad.

Going to spend a little time on the 98. once again I guess things were sitting too long and they went bad. I don't hear the fuel pump at all. Will spend a little time on that tonight

got the 87 going pretty good. Put on a new spin on fuel filter replaced all the fuel hoses while was at it. Put in a one-way valve. Replaced the three rubber brake hoses and the master cylinder. Took a good while to get the air out of the system but it feels great no more squishy pedal. should have the hydraulic clutch part Tuesday morning. Hopefully that solves that.

Going to spend some more time on the 98. Think I need to order a new fuel pump. Will see

good afternoon, got 87 going good. Brakes are all fixed up. New oil and motor transmission and transfer case. New filters. Doing the glow plugs now. Running great. Just turned 42,000 miles. Haven't had this truck too long and I already put 18,000 miles on. Hopefully in the near future 700R4. Have an overdrive gear finally. Here's a picture for the hell of it

not much luck with the 98 yet. Going to spend some time on it this afternoon.

good morning, I have both airbags and control module from the other truck in the 98. I replaced module because I figured that way I wouldn't have to go to the dealer and have them reset it. Replacing the module didn't do anything I still have an airbag light. My mechanic snap on computer cant reset this. So my question is does this module need to be replaced? Maybe it's just a one-shot deal. This is the last piece of the puzzle that I'll have my 98 back.any ideas? Thanks a lot guys

Check the fuse for it?

the fuses good. the truck is running good. After this airbag thing that's it the truck should be fine again. I'm in trying to diagnose this for a while now. The numbers from the parts truck match so I swapped over the impact sensor computer in both airbags. I am still getting code b1061 b1054. I'm going back to check the wiring make sure everything is clean and has the safety clips in. Any other ideas about the code guys? Thanks a lot

I think the 1061 is usually a seat airbag code. Does either truck use an airbag in the driver's seat? That code says that the connector under the seat is not hooked up usually.
The module is not seeing a connection to the driver's seat airbag.
And I also think that the 1054 is the steering wheel airbag. In that case its sometimes the clock spring in the steering wheel.
