Need a mechanic

i was backing my 02 yukon up the drive way and heard pop/clunk and a high whine. I figured I trashed the tranny. So I put it in drive (hopeing I stiil have drive) drove down the drive way and up a little hill hit reverse and backed up. It seemed like I had reverse but I was on a hill too, and drove back up the drive way. It whined the whole time and even a little louder in park. Please tell me What happened?

you cheack the fluid? low fluid while make the trans whine

It was fine until the clunk backing it up the drive way. Know oil any where on the drive way.

your yukon has a 4l60e trans and it sounds like you have the common failure of a splined out reaction shell. they make a new shell called "the beast" and its fairly easy to change if your capible of pulling the trans and tearing it down. as long as the fluid is in good condition usually u can just chage the reaction shell a pump gasket and oring and as always new fluid and a filter kit

Thanks/ That sounds right to me, The fluid was flushed last year and it's checked every 3k. So what should this cost if I hire a local shop to do this. Can I drive as is?

ull have no 2nd or 4th gear and the more you drive the more metal contamination and possibily of further damage also u cannot clean out the converter so any metal that gets pushed into the converter will just end up back in the trans. usualy i get about $850 depending on how long they drove it after it broke
