so the holley i have now is junk, removed the choke completely due to it sticking all the time, randomly hiccups/bogs sometimes, its pretty old from the little i know about it, just a general pos, looking for a new one, electric choke, in the 600 cfm range, motor is a 350 gm crate motor, real milage unknown, street dominator intake, somewhat lumpy cam, longtube headers, trans is a th350, its in my 85 k5 blazer 4x4, looked at the holley truck avenger, edlebrock off road avenger, the summit house brand carbs(anyone know who makes these? look like holleys?) just looking for some input on what to choose, trying to stay away from the edelbrocks due to the whole metering rods and tunability deal, but ill consider everything, ive had mainly jeeps so the whole carb thing is somewhat new to me, i know how they work and how to tune them, just no idea what to pick!!!!, not looking to spend a ton as cash is tight lately..

just have your current Holley rebuilt. im sure the throttle shafts are worn causing air leaks, they can be re-bushed. otherwise a quadrajet or the edelbrock performer carbs are nice carbs.

my quadra jet works great on my 400CI small block v8.im at 171k miles and 34 years and Im still climbing 60 degree slopes with no issues. im pretty sure the q jet fully open can hit 750-800+ CFM

mainly use the truck for street use, little mud and powerline/rocky trails here and there, its my daily driver and weekend toy, so im looking for something reliable, thanks for the input guys keep it coming!!

hard to argue with a quadrabog... awesome offcamber, gas sippers if your not floggin it, hold a tune VERY well, simple rebuild, etc...

found an edlebrock afb style in the classifieds here, figured for the price i cant go wrong, hope it works out!!

edelbrocks are simple to tune and stay in tune well. however, you will not be happy off road with it. hell, mine starts to sputter if i park on a decently sloped driveway... does fine for DD, but i will be replacing it with a q-jet for sure

my exact experience with them as well.

If i park on a driveway i have to pump gas like 5 times to get it to fire... Also if my truck sits for more than a day i have to crank it a while to get it to start up.

I want a Q jet

planning on extending the vent tube on mine and a few other things, anything is better then what ive got now. needs 4 pumps to start every morning

I have an Edelbrock Performer (i.e. Carter AFB) on one of my 4X4 as well, it is a great carb on the street, but it does have problems maintaining fuel pressure at steep angles off roading. Just make sure you run it with an electric fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. This will help increase the steep angles the carburetor can operate by a decent amount.
