My old Crapsman bit the dust this weekend. 1/2" 20-150lb. click style. 25 yr old..

Need a new one. Open to suggestions. Not looking to drop a huge load on one.. Like to stick 150-200max.

would like something going a bit higher than 150..

Suggestions?

Precision Instruments is owned by Snap on and they make Snap on torque wrenches, my old neighbor work for them in industry ca. I have the 3/8 dial since 2017 and i love it. I need one between the 3/8" 50 ft pd and my 50-250 click I always try to a torque wrench in the middle of it's range.

I love the ICON at Harbor freight. Seen some tests putting them against the expensive brands and they were usually liked as good or better. I liked the 1/2" so much I went and bought the 3/8" and 1/4" too.

I’ve got the etork in 1/4” and 3/8” and I’ve been real happy with them. My 1/2” is a 15yr old o’reilly’s brand that so far so good.

I really like the Snap-On torque angle ones. My work bought them for me though, not sure what I would buy if I had to foot the bill. I have some older regular Snap-On digital ones from back when I had to buy my own tools. I used to have a Carlyle one from Napa that seemed like a nice one.

it is always interesting to learn what other members do for a living
I mainly due hydraulic torque wrenches, repair and calibrate. I do do a lot of clicker wrenches, I did 43 at a city shop the other day and will be at the local Peterbuilt dealer tomorrow that will have around a 100. We make hydraulic torque wrenches that do over 100,000 foot pounds. I can calibrate clicker wrenches up to 1,000 foot pounds and hydraulic, pneumatic and cordless torque wrenches up to 20,000 foot pounds on my van.

When can I send mine to ya? :pimp:

I’ve done at least 1500 plus torque wrenches and I would say you typically get what you pay for. I usually average 1 out of 15 failing. A few weeks ago I did two brand new never been out of the box Amazon specials and they both failed. Regular clicker wrenches have a +/- of 4% and electronic are +/- 1%. For ISO standards you check them at 20%, 60% and 100% of the wrenches capacity three times at each setting. The worst thing is leaving pressure on twist handle wrenches. They should be stored at lowest capacity of wrench.

Ended up just going with some crapsman again as I needed them fast to get some stuff done. Did come w/ some printouts of it's testing supposedly.

Precision Instruments,in City of Industy Ca, makes Snap on Torque wrenches. About half the price of Snap on gir the PI units. My old nieghbor used to work there.

Get the dewalt click style torque wrench like this. I cant find just the wrench but you get the idea. Iv tested a bunch of these and they pass calibration pretty good. Only failing 1 out of 10 which is good for a budget wrench.

Icon wrenchses are meh, they pass sometimes.

Pitsburg or any wrench that has that thumb screw you loosen at the bottom to adjust torque are all junk, absolutely junk.

whenever you posted the DeWALT one I put it in my cart; when I went back it was over $200. it is $109.99 right now. How good is Husky?
Husky is also on sale: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-5...s-1-2-in-Drive-Torque-Wrench-H2DTWA/205914009

Husky is pretty decent, especially if you aren’t using it all day everyday. They seam to be accurate. The problem with most of the cheaper wrenches is that over time the ratchet teeth strip out. The design and quality isn't as good as the more expensive ones. For the weekend warrior/ home mechanic I would say Husky should be fine. I wouldn’t use one to install airplane wings but I would torque my daily drivers wheels with one.

Heres a good watch about torque wrenches….

And calibrating yours at home….
