I did a search, and most of the links wouldn't open up. The ones that did didn't help or confused me more. I've got an 87 p/u with a 700R4. I want to get a cooler in it asap. The only thing I've gotten out of seaching I want the biggest I can fit, and have it fed after the radiator. Other than that I'm clueless. I'd prefer to get a cooler that comes with everything to install it. Just want something cheapish and easy to install. Links to some good coolers would be awesome. Thanks all.

I personally use 2 transmission coolers & do not run it through my radiator cooler with my 700R4. My gauge says I can very rarely get to the danger zone. I have to be flogging the crap out of the truck to get the trans to the danger zone.

On the trail I average about 150-160*. If I am floggin it I have gotten the temps up to about 220* then I stop and let it cool down.

The 24,000 GVW b&m super cooler looks good. On the topic of trans temp gauges. I'd like to run one of those too. I'm not really up on that either. What's everyone running. I know autometer makes pretty much everything. Do you have to weld a bung into the pan for the sensor, or how does that work? Great help so far guys. Thanks a bunch.

Looks good. One more thing. I read somewhere the supplied line wasn't long enough for our trucks with the b&m super coolers.Anyone know anything about that. Also read the ties to hold the cooler to the radiator were junk. What did you guys use?

I have a temp gauge comming in the mail, but whats the temp range to run the truck in my sig , and PhilS10HO`s , in?

I used the B&M super cooler with an electric fan. I also used an inline t/stat to make sure it got up to temp too. I mounted it with rubber isolation mounts to flat steel bar and used Earls hose. It's the bigger cooler in the pic. Other one is a motor cooler also with a t/stat.

The B&M temp gauge has the breakdown of temps with color code. Green (good), yellow (caution), red (danger). It also shows the numbers.

I run a derale cooler w/elec fan and eliminated the radiator feed. but as for the temp gauge you need to go to the pan thats the temp that matters most not to or from the cooler. I drilled and tapped the trans body allowing acceess to get to the pan. just do it when you change the filter so you can clean out all the fillings.

Yup the trans pan is where you should have your guage. Having one in the cooling lines does not tell you what the majority of the fluid's temp is. The fluid could be just sitting in the pan cooking. Without a guage to tell you you would never know.

Any cooler is better than no cooler. Once I installed a temp guage I could not believe how hot the tranny juice got going up hills. I got mine from NAPA. I would go with the biggest available too.

A 77 K5 would`nt come stock with a cooler would it?
Mine has one that T`s off right at the radiator and goes in front left corner then the lines go back to the line comming off the radiator.

There is some tranny fluid hose supplied with the b&m kit and brackets also(little drilling needed), might need some tranny fluid hose from NAPA too. Thats how i installed mine. Had for a year so far, no problems.
