I'm completely new here. Never owned any GM trucks.

I found a 85 Blazer for sale locally and I'm going to take a look at it today. Just want to get people's opinion on what to look for. It's a 4x4 and the 6.2L diesel engine. This is the post for the truck:

Full-size (K5 style)
Silverado trim package
6.2L Diesel engine
4 wheel drive
186k miles, strong engine, smooth transmission
Two-tone paint (black and silver), minor body rust
Air Conditioning, converted to R-134a at 167k miles
Needs new A/C compressor ($250 +/-)
Aluminum running boards
New heater blower at 184k mi
New batteries at 185k mi
Automatic Transmission, professionally rebuilt at 157k miles
Regular oil changes
NC inspection good through Dec 2003
2" hitch receiver with wiring harness
All tires have a lot of tread remaining
Cruise does not currently work

He's currently asking $2900 for it, which I think it's kind high even considering for all the newer parts. What should I look for when I go check it out today? Any opinions and comments are welcome. I've never owned a diesel before either so I'm pretty clueless on the engine except it gets good mileage and good for pulling.

Thanks,

Jim

$2900 sounds resonable providing it's not a rust bucket. Defently check the rocker panels around and behind those running boards.

Check out the rear wheel well area... mainly up in the front where the interior steel is.

I just spent 22 hours this weekend fixing mine. Lots of things can be hidden by a good coat of undercoating!

From what you posted it looks good and I don't think the price is to bad offer him 2500$ as long as it's not real bad in the rust, As the others have said look for the rust around the tail gate area as well, And just take a look for cracks around the steering box area to, I doubt that the truck as been wheeled very hard or if at all. And if you get it get rid of the running boards /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Man, 85 K5 Blazers sell for $4,000 and up down here. That's not a bad deal and sounds like a typical truck, except he mentions rust...go see where this "minor rust" is on the truck...

Man... 2900 is a lot of money. I bought mine for 200 bucks. Rust free, doors need new hinge pins, and it had a blowed up 6.2 diesel. Then I had to tear all the running gear out of it becuase I really needed 3/4 ton axles under it and a gas engine.

I'm not a big fan of the 6.2 or 6.5 Chevy diesels. I've NEVER seen a set of those heads that weren't cracked. They're WAY underpowered for a diesel too...

Ok, I still haven't seen the truck yet. The seller called me right before I was leaving for his place and informed me the starter was having trouble and wouldn't start. So he plans to either rebuild it or replace it. I don't think it'll be worth a trip to go see it w/o able to drive it.
