My 76 is not a DD. It sits, sometimes, for a month or so at a time, so when I go out to start it, I have to charge the battery, prime the carb, etc. I don't mind priming the carb, but dragging my battery charger out to the curb is a pain and there's no way I can leave it on the truck. I've seen solar chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter and supposedly trickle charge the battery. Do these things work? Is there something better?

they do work if the drain isn't too heavy. i have a cheapy from HF that i used on my k5 when i kept it outside for weeks at a time. not bad.

Just unhook the battery when not in use. If the battery is good and fully charged it should last. I would pull the battery and put it on the charger for a few days at a 2 amp trickle. The you shoul dbe able to leave for weeks or at least a month.

I want to ditto the HF solar charger. There is one in a friend's truck that stays outside all year with very limited usage. NO PROBLEMS!
