I need some advice on what trans coolers to get for my K2500 and K30.
I've been scrolling through Summit's coolers, but they have too much to choose from :doah:

The 2500 has a TH700 trans, and I can se on the temp guage that it rises very quickly in temp when driving offroad, and in deep snow.
(Shoveling snow on the trans pan to cool it down is a common procedure  )
Is there any point in installing one with a built-in fan,
or should I just mount the biggest regular one I can find in front of the radiator, and let the radiator fan do the work?

And then there's the K30.
I haven't installed a temp guage in it yet, but it has begun slipping in 3rd gear:doah:
I don't know if it's from normal wear or if it's been overheated...
(It's a TH400 btw)

Is it true that the TH400 doesn't build as much heat as the TH700?

i've always just run em in front. but I'm sure the ones with built-in fans would probably be helpful for slow speed crawling... just make sure you get a stacked plate...

i was just gona say if offroad and slow speed built in fan .

b&m has stacked plate style with built in fan and temp sensor to run it. cant go wrong with this setup if you ask me.

I had put in a stacked plate after a finned plate- next to the oil cooler. Its all in line after the in radiator one. Apparently, the stacked plates naturally have a bypass of sorts.

Tru-Cool self-regulating coolers - it is the oil that regulates the cooler.
Thicker oil that is below the ideal operating temperature bypasses the cooler through the upper two plates. When the temperature rises, it becomes thin enough to pass through the entire cooler. TRU-COOL's superior heat transfer is efficient & automatic.
This way I always have some additional cooling, and the stacked plate gives me extra cooling when I need it. :woot:

Summit has some really big finned tube coolers, like this:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G4968/?rtype=10
(21"x7"x1.5")

But I guess I'm better off with a stacked plate cooler even if it's smaller then, right?

But I'm having a hard time deciding if I should go with one with a built in fan or not....
I really like to keep electric stuff to a minimum in my trucks...
But I don't wanna regret it later if I realize that a regular cooler isn't enough:doah:

I went with the B&M stacked plate from Summit I have it installed in addition to the one in the radiator, also put in their temp gauge just have to finish hooking up the wires. Truck is a V3500 crew with a TH400, no complaints eventually going to put the same setup in my other trucks.
