I saw a thread a while ago giving recommendations on air compressors, but now I can't find it.

I need (want) an air compressor and don't know much about them. Can someone help me out? Needs to be able to run an impact wrench, chisel, light sanding. I'd like to spend less than $400, but could go to $500 if needed.

$400 or $500 hundred is going to get you an OK compressor. a good compressor is not cheap. My 80 gal. upright 7.5 HP cast iron Camble-Hausfield was a $1000 plus tax. Its only a single stage compressor. I should have waited and bought a duel stage. My neighbor bought a Inger-Soll Rand Duel stage 7.5 HP compressor that kicks ass over mine. If your going to run a syphon grit blast cabinet one this big will work ok but it takes alot of time to get stuff cleaned up.

A pressure pot grit blast cabinet needs atleast 10 HP to do a good job of blasting stuff off fast. Dont buy any compressor with an Aluminum motor, you want cast iron. My dad had a craftsman grenade, actually broke the cylinder and head. They would not warenty it since it was 3 months out of warenty. Look into the smaller say 20 Gal. Inger-Soll compressors.

Look at TSC. They have a pretty good selection, in several price ranges. I bought a 60 gal Farmhand. But I got a hella deal.
