Need brake help.

Buddy of mine trying to put longer lines on his truck. I haven't seen it or run into this issue before. Here's what he said :

the lines have a fitting on the lower end to allow different adapters to fit different vehicles and the set of adapters i have are for the half ton calipers i think, they are squarish and my calipers have a round space where they are supposed to go...the square is too big...

'87 Chev V20, 6" lift, 6.2L diesel w/'88 turbo, 33's turbo 400 w/shift kit, 9.5" semifloater w/detroit locker, 3.73 stock gears...
 
There is some variance in D44/10b calipers; early calipers use a 3/8" banjo bolt, and later 10mm.

Also, some brake lines end in that square gizmo; others have the corners nubbed off of the square.To make it worse, not all calipers are cast for one or t'other.

The solution is to go after the caliper castings with a grinder. Obviously cover the brake line fitting on the caliper so you don't get crap in there -- a rubber cap would be best.

I can post pix if this doesn't make sense.

I'm pretty sure I get you, but pics wouldn't hurt. I'm a few hours away from the truck, so I'm dealing with it remotely. :D

Here's the last I heard. Apparently some adapters came with the kit, but some threads are messed up.

the adapter that came with the brake lines is crossthreaded and the threads are torn out of it (its made out of brass

So could he get the round adapter widget for his lines somewhere?

Mebbe, if his vendor has 'em. That's not stock style, so you're into aftermarket bling there, which I donno anything about.

All you gotta do is zap off the lip (see high quality illustration, attached :haha: ) -- a coarse flap disc on a grinder would be ideal -- so it's flat with the rest of the surface.

As mentioned, cork up the hole though.

I've had to do this, somewhere along the line.
