Need Carb Help

Well first off. the problem lies with my daily driver 86 K-5 350 w/ CCC Q-Jet, 700r trans.

Lately I have been having an issue with the carb being stuck in fast idle mode and not coming down with the usual tap. Only way I have been able to get it to drop is to quickly press the pedal down pretty much all the way and I've hated doing it, but its the only way it will come out of fast idle.

Well leaving work today, it was really stubborn, finally got it to drop and started on home. Idle then jumped up a little on the way home and stayed higher than normal until about 2 streets away (thankfully) when it got a mind of its own accelerating and decelerating on its own, then it just kept accelerating. so I shut the truck off and coasted home.

When I got home and looked the throttle was still open and I just touched it and popped back to idle.

Gonna take a look at it tomorrow morning in the daylight and just wanted to know if there is anything specific to look or check for. Really don't want this to happen again as its not a safe condition.

Also forgot to mention this carb was redone about 3 years ago by Recarbco and has been flawless until recently

electric choke? The fast idle works off the choke. If its the stove top choke it may need cleaning. If it's electric it may need adjusting after 3 years of heating and cooling. The fast idle lever is right underneath the choke. It should release by just hitting the gas after idling for a while.

Its electric choke. Yeah the fast idle use to release with just barely a tap until recently.

I would try adjusting it. Probably turning it counterclock wise. I believe without looking that it loosens the coil inside. It may take some playing with. It took be a few tries to get mine pretty close.

Unless the electric heat element or the wire to it are bad, the most likely problem is just dirt. Even though it has been rebuilt recently, the linkage is sitting out there for all the world to throw stuff at.
Some carb cleaner on the rods and linkages on the outside, along with a looksee down the bore for varnish buildup, followed by the lubricant of choice around here will probably fix it right up.
Oops, I misread the first post. The rebuild was 3 years ago. Dirt is more likely than ever.

Alright just went out to adjust the choke, noticed it takes longer than normal to open up all the way.

But it seems it is not adjustable, there is a tab on the housing which connects to a groove on the choke preventing it from being rotated (adjusted). Could it be something else, or do i need to break off that tab
