looking at new valve covers and i was wondering can i just get rid of my pcv valve? do i really need it? i have seen older valve covers with no holes in them and i know the crankcase needs to be vented but how did they do it in the old days? and if i have breathers in one hole and a oil cap in the other, will i be ok.

In the older blocks they had a unique provision to vent the crankcase. It cannot, to the best of my knowledge, be included in a newer block. You must have a crankcase vent if you don't want the engine to self-destruct in short order.

The engine won't self-destruct but it will blow out all of the seals.

Keep the pcv.

in some states it is an emission thing that they check for too. Mechanically you don't need a PCV valve but you do need to vent the crankcase, like through the use of a breather.

also by removing it you will change the tune on the carb as you are now blocking off a huge vacume port.
keep it its only one hose and helps vent the motor which it needs.
Or as posted it will blow seals out frome to much pressure building up inside the block.
