So I'm trying to find a new tank for my truck and after reading and searching about new tanks it seems the spectra tank is the better way to go even then the baffle design inside it sucks? Unless they have corrected it recently. Hopefully they have because I need a tank. So is spectra my best option or is there another aftermarket oe style tank avaiable?

I've been looking at new tanks online for my 82 k2500 and I like the MTS brand poly tanks, never a rust problem again if you go with plastic--but the price is almost double too..Dorman sells steel ones, and there is probably 20 other suppliers online if you search google, even Amazon sells some gas tanks of various brands..

A friend of mine uses Spectra tanks often on his customers cars and trucks and hasn't had any troubles with them yet...also buys a lot of radiators from them, lately those dont have such a great track record--since "Keystone" bought out the company that sells Spectra tanks around here, some of the radiators and other parts have been hit or miss as far as being "good"..

He used to have very good luck with their stuff, but lately you never know what brand or country of origin the radiators are coming from..some korean ones have been leaky right out of the box..I suspect when they sold out some leftovers were mixed in with the Spectra parts and they wanted to dispose of them first..

Yes, the Spectra tank kinda sucks. I have one and the baffling (as they call it) is basically a pie tin in the center where the pump sits. I could probably run dry and still have 2 gal surrounding the pie tin :haha:

Having said that..... I've never lost prime. Unless you run vertical like I do, I don't see you ever having a problem. (not good idea to offroad almost empty anyway) I got mine from AutoZone, when they had a big coupon and free shipping. RockAuto is good too with a discount.

pic whore:waytogo:

Dont know about your Area, but look.up performance radiator. I bought 2 from them fit well and still going good today

Thanks for all the replies guys. As far as a custom tank I'm trying to stay away from them due to cost, need to get 2 tires pretty soon and some other stuff. Not really going to be a hardcore rig, more of a family trail rig because it's my daily driver as well so I'm trying to keep it on a tight budget. My wife don't work and I'm working two jobs out of necessity so I have to stick to the budget. I really don't even need a tank it's just mine took a rock when the po had it and the fuel gauge quit working on me so if I'm dropping the old one I'm not putting it back in.

I'm in the same boat--last thing I need is to spend 150 bucks on a new fuel tank and sending unit right now--but I've had enough of trying to patch up leaking tanks, nothing I've tried works for long, if at all,and with my back feeling broken most of the time,I am lucky if I'll be able to drop the tank one more time and replace it once and for all with a new one..plus losing fuel on the ground isn't exactly environmentally correct or cheap,I also hate not knowing how much fuel is in the tank too,you dont want to let a diesel run out of fuel...

If you wheel hard, the spectra design (if not improved) would probably cause issues with a low tank. I don't wheel hard, so I've never had a problem. I try not to let it get below 1/4 tank "offroad" (logging roads) because I don't trust that baffle however.
