my 700r4 shifts really late in my truck. it has been swapped from a 91 suburban that had rebuilt. i'm running an edelbrock carb. i've tried with the engine off loosening the cable all the way then push gas pedal to the floor to adjust the cable. it revs to about 4 grand and i have to let off the gas to get it to shift. on the highway it has no power. will downshift if i floor it but no power. i just got swapping axles this weekend. 3/4 tons 4.10 gears. low end is awesome but doesn't shift right. i have a mr gasket bracket i got from advanced auto but it puts the adjustment for the tv cable on the bottom. not sure that is right. what bracket do i need? i've also read about the piece that goes on the edelbrock carb. would that make a difference. i really don't want to ruin this tranny. only drove a few miles so far so hopefully didn't do damage.

that site is awesome. very detailed. i can't find that bracket for the carb on there. do you know where i could get one? thanks

not sure on the bracket, what model edelbrock is it?

for the record... tv cables aren't adjusted, they are set... my TBI, (and I'm assuming carbs too) is set like this..

motor should be off... depress the "D" button on the cable... pull the sheath behind the bracket so it pulls the adjustment all the way back... release D button... then operate the throttle to full throttle.. this should make the sheath "click" out a few clicks..

and yeah, an improperly set TV will nuke a 700r4 in short order...

x2. It's bad enough that a 700 should NOT be driven without the cable working correctly. I killed a trans driving 15 miles with one improperly adjusted. :(

yup, thats why I'm going manual vb... I'm assuming it's a little harder on the pump, but the full line pressure is "comforting" in my mind I suppose...
