Need Help Choosing New Engine

Any decent 383 set up right should have 350+ hp from 2000rpm up. Keeping it cool is easy enough with the right components. The one in my old 79 camaro never had an issue with heat, even with the factory radiator. A 4 core in a k truck and a good high volume water pump and thermostat should be fine.

the th350 should be fine with 375hp. If you can get your motor done for 2200 you'd have the cash left to rebuild the tranny too for good messure. I just had my sons th350 rebuilt and slightly worked over, plus a new converter for 650 at the shop by my house. He told me I will be alright if my kid warms his motor up to 400-450 later on.
What did you have done to the th350 Mr. Shady? What is the stall speed on the converter?

All that was really done is a little higher perfomance clutch discs and a mild shift kit. Dont know really. The guy that did it is a local drag racer that opened a couple tranny shops. I just gave it to him and told him what I'm doing with it then set him free. He's done a few other ones for me with great results and no troubles. Converter was only a couple hundred R's over stock. He told me that would have to change when the motor gets warmed over, but thats later.

"Warmed over" in my eyes is a motor that runs on pump gas, and just has performance parts on the top end. Usually cam/heads/intake combo that gives it a good bit of power over stock, but keeps the reliability.

Thats pretty much the jist of it. Car Craft did a full 7 part build on the gm performance 260hp 350. With a mild workover (intake, carb, cam, headers, then a cheap set of cast iron heads) they had it at 425hp and 450ft lb's
