I would only diesel swap it if you plan on towing a lot of heavy loads in the mtns or long distances. A big block will do just fine otherwise. Swap in an NV4500 for overdrive and you will have a great all around truck. If you want to spend money to redo the big block do a 496 stroker.

I do not know why you want to change the set up you have. A K30 with a big block and a SM465 is about as tough and reliable a set up as you can get. Back in the mid 80"s I had a 1978 single cab SRW K30 with the same set up as you, and that thing was tough as nails.

Put that effort into a cummins

I've put a lot of thought into doing a 12 valve swap. Its so hard to choose.

I actually found a good deal on a 2003 8.1l with 4l85E with harness computer for $2500. I'd most likely do the raylar kit or put the dart heads on it. Its cheaper than going fuel injection and its already 496 ci plus the wife could drive it. I'd drive my square everywhere if it had overdrive. Thats the main reason I want to swap ir upgrade.
