NEED HELP FAST-CAN\'T GET MY DIST CAP BACK ON!!!!

WHAT IT SAYS.....Took the cap off and can't get it back on. it doesn't want to sit right and I can't get the tabs to catch........HELP!!!!!!!

Look at the underside of the cap...there are a couple of tabs that must line up with the dist housing. Once those line up its just the spring loaded screws to push down and turn until they catch

Check to make sure you are not getting caught on something like a wire. Sometimes they can be a pain to get on. Just keep playing with it till it sits correctly.

Make sure all 4 spring loaded screw things are rotated outwards and then try it. I'll bet one is turned in and is messin things up.

Got it!!!!!!!!! Whew.........I think I was just getting frustrated......Goddam GM could have positioned the rear driver's tab a little btter, eh?

Did you get a chance to check the mechanical advance mechanism?

BTW, Rene, mechanical advance looked fine, snapped back ok. I think I'll take a closer look afer holidays though.

Man, If you think the cap is hard, try taking the whole distributor out.

I can have the whole thing out of my 73 in about 2 minutes. Never had a problem with the cap on that one either. My 89 on the other hand is a real PITA.
