need help from a guy that knows about 454's

They will make good low end power. The Mercruiser was rated at 330hp
I am hoping to use mine for my k20 burb.
@folkenheath is going to design some updates for mine.
I still have to check over the guides, if these heads require machine work I will probably get different heads.

There are two separate types of C2500’s in ‘92 - both are decent and both have 14 bolts on the rear cover but one is a RPO code “C6P” and has an 1” larger ring gear and full floating axles that will be way more durable.
15K on a single rear wheel truck with smaller older type brakes is risky.

Sounds like you need a basic truck type of a 454 - if you are truly searching for quality advice then you know the questions you must answer first; but if it doesn’t really matter just copy the base truck engine example.
quick question on the rpo code is the only location to find it in the glovebox? because this truck has been excuse my language beat to shit by the guy i bought it from crackhead type of guy and everything is worn off or been abused in some way and i'm trying to bring it back to looking good.

I am going to convert mine to adjustable, i is possible w/o machine work
i have a contact that does engine and head machining luckily but i haven't talked to him yet because i wasn't sure which route i was gonna go and i wanted to learn some more so i can have a vague understanding of what he's talking about when i go to his shop.

You can go down to your GM dealer and give them your VIN and they can pull it up for you.

If you could post pictures ( depending on type of membership $25 and number of initial posts ) we could help identify stuff much easier for you.

How many lug nuts are on this truck ?

i would share photos but i'll be honest i have no idea how to but as far as lugs it is a 6 lug it came factory with a tbi 454 but someone swapped it out for a tbi 350 for unknown reasons but from what i've found in the truck bed and the wear and tear in the bed it kinda looks like the person before the guy i bought it from might have used it to haul firewood or just around a farm.

If this truck truly came originally equipped with the six-lug version rear 14-bolt axle then it did not come with a 454 - not trying to give ya any fuss but rather trying to educate ya on what is what.

Try telling us what the 8th digit of the VIN is - IIRC for the GMT400’s “R” is the VIN code for a TBI-454 in ‘92.
Also, those six-lug C2500’s did not use the heavier transmissions in auto or manual options - can you share with us what you plan to use for this build ?
The more you tell us the more we can advise you on instead of guessing what you have…

And don’t worry about this site being mostly about full-size Blazers and JIMMYS - we cover most ALL the GM trucks and the heavier rated ones get wheeled and most of us also have a pull-truck so the well runs deep on the entire line up.

ok well i had a whole lot typed out but i fat fingered the keyboard and i am not gonna do that again so i'll make it short and sweet

i'm not offended i get that i'm not as experienced as all of you guys i want to learn and everything i knew about my truck was probably 4 or so years ago and my memory is not very good so there is a good chance i'm misremembering 70 percent of this.

transmission i told a guy the original build which i thought was '92 c2500 6 lug tbi 454 and they said more than likely its a 4l80 and told me they're good for what i want so i was gonna take my transmission and get it rebuilt or buy a "new" one but honestly i'm waiting until i finish my engine then talk to the transmission guy about my specs and plans and let him tell me what would work and if i'm being honest i am not a transmission guy i hate working on them so i have zero knowledge about them. \

and yeah man i'll share whatever info you guys need because i love learning from guys who know i highly appreciate the help thus far.

8th digit on my vin is k

Chances are if the truck is a genuine light-duty six-lug C2500 the transmission will be a 4L60E and not a 4L80E - major difference in strength and durability.

That doesn’t mean you couldn’t bolt a big-block up to a 4L60E but it is highly ill advised with the kind of weight you are wanting to pull. Neither of those trans are cheap to get built these days.

You also will need a way to control the electronics on either type of tranny if you are gonna stick with a carb on your new motor.

Find out what that 8th digit is in your VIN or better yet post up the complete VIN minus the ending serial numbers that identify your specific vehicle because nobody over the web needs that info about your truck.
This way we can tell if it’s a LD 2500 ( which is very much based off of a 1500 chassis ).

It sounds like you have a light-duty 2500 and really need to consider not pulling that kind of weight with that chassis no matter what motor is used.
Put a 454 in it because you like it is fine but pulling 15K with that chassis is not a good idea. Just wanting to give ya fair warning and limits of that vehicle.

i can send my entire vin minus whatever i'm supposed to leave off how many digits is it supposed to be i know this is like super dumb for me to be this oblivious but you seem to be a straight shooter.

I believe it’s the first 10 or so digits that matter - the remaining numbers are a sequenced numerical set that identifies your specific vehicle.
But you could google VIN decoding but ya might get lost in the lingo - it’s easy to do.

I think it’s great that you are building a 454 for your truck - I’m a big fan of these engines.
It’s just what your planning on doing with it that warrants caution - no matter what motor is in it is not the issue; it’s the lack of chassis beef that’s the problem pulling that kind of weight.

yeah now that i've refreshed my memory i now remember things so yeah i think i'll curb my plans to making it sound badass and being peppy but ah well it'll still be useful just not as my original plan it's not like it's a total mood killer if anything it makes it a little easier for me so i don't have to worry too much about everything. but hell yeah i think now i might just do a dirty dirty backyard head job/cylinder hone measure those though of course i like being kind of accurate. but i still need to figure out pistons/cam/lifters so more research for me, lol.

Your 4th digit is the GVWR is an “F” and that’s between 7001~8000 lbs. which is the light-duty 2500 - basically it’s a slightly glorified 1500 chassis with a mild upgrade in springs and rear axle.

Last bit of advice for ya - write all what you want to do down on paper and what it will cost you BEFORE you spend the first dime and evaluate if it’s worth it for your budget.
There are plenty of great folks around here that can guide and help - just get a plan together first because changing things once you started gets expensive quick and could get confusing for those helping.

It wouldn't be hard to swap to a TBI454/4L80. IIRC those years the wiring only had different TPS and IAC plugs, should be easy to get. Also the chip in the PCM can be swapped for one with the combo you want. I love big blocks (hence my s/n) and didn't have a bunch of small block parts my Limited would get the spare I have in my garage.
