So a while back, a friend of mine went to a car museum in Canada, and he knew the owner so he got to go look at the stock they didn't have on display. He found what looks like a K5, but it's weird, as the door's lengthened and there's an extra window. it also had current Quebec plates on it. as it was in the back of the museum, there was no information on it, all there is is just this photo of it through it's clear cover. anybody have any info on what it is?

There was a company doing extended cab coversions, maybe it was possible to stretch the K5 too?

thing is, if you look closely, the door handle is under that extra window, indicating it's more than just that, maybe it still is and they just gave it a door running the full length of the cab?

Under closer inspection you appear to be right. The rain gutter is even extended...

Would it be possible for it to have been a conversion for wheelchair access?

Edit: Know how much it was stretched off hand? Was the frame lengthend or body swapped onto a SWB frame?

Good suggestion, though would you know of a company that did those conversions?

Having never seen one of these before, no. Most likely it would have been a local or reginal shop that did it. I know there is a place near me that does truck/van conversions. Their stuff tends to stay in the area.

If the floor were lowered that would be a good indication that was the intention.

oh, I can say that from when my friend was there, he can confirm the floor isn't lowered, so I guess that's not it either then?

Again, hard to tell. I've seen them with stock height floors too.

At this point it's all a guess. Be interesting to know the backstory on it.

ah, true, so I guess it's still possible, and currently, is the best lead we still have so far

also, I messed up slightly, it's ontario plates, not Quebec, and it was still registered. Apparently, another guy knew the owner of the museum, and used it's Garage to park some of his collection there. considering the current plates, it's possible this is one of his cars. i'm sure if we could figure out who "this guy" is, we'd have a clear answer, but until then, I guess it's all just our best guesses

Definitely an aftermarket thing, whether for handicap access or some other reason. Definitely not something that was Canadian only or factory.

Canadian models of vehicles was a thing for many many years, due to old import tariffs and stuff. Looks up Canadian Pontiac, Canadian Plymouth, and Canadian Mercury and you'll find lots of bastardized models never seen in the USA. I own a 57 "Cheviac". A Canadian Pontiac built alongside the 57 Chevy here in Canada. It is vastly different from the American Pontiac.

All that stuff ended by 1970 or so, well before that K5 abortion ever saw daylight.

yeah, aftermarket indeed

Also for whoever asked about length, it's the same length as a standard one, if you look closely, the rear glass is actually shortened, it's the door that's lengthened

Not sure why I'm chiming in on this. I know less about K5s than most. But is there something funky about the fender reflector/light or is that just the angle of the picture? It looks like it is too long.
Plus, what the heck is the name of the car?
Never mind about the car. I was able to zoom in. Its an Acadian.

I believe @TREA18 has a K5 with the drivers door stretched for wheelchair access.
does it also have that extra window or no? and is the frame lengthened or just the door?

And Fordum, I believe that indicator is the normal one

Could easily be. From the picture, it looks like the end is hanging over the wheelwell and its sloping down like one screw is missing.

The fender is flared out a bit, it's simply following the line of the flare, it's just the angle the photo was taken at that makes it look that way

Yep, just looked weird to me. Of course, thats the way my mind works. I look at a K5 with a two window driver's door that is long enough to make getting out in a crowded parking lot iffy, and I lock in on the front reflector........
