Greetings, hopefully soneone can shed some light on this one:confused:
An 87 K5 350 went for its maden voyage only to hopefully un stick the front brakes (about 1/2 mile. upon return the battery was nearly dead (wasn't before) of course the brakes were still stuck! but the motor wouldn't restart after a quick charge. Now in the past I had this years ago due to hot new headers near the starter wires, the motor still cranks and the wires look fine, fuse panel is fine, couldn't find a fuseable link to the ecm or anything like that. What can I check for? Thanks in advance.....

There are many things that can kill a battery quickly. First off since you said "maiden voyage" i'm going to assume that this vehicle hasn't ran for some time? The worst thing you can do to a battery is let it sit without being used. At the least you should keep a battery tender on it or at least a slow 2amp trickle charge from time to time. You need to SLOWLY charge the battery back up (this should take a solid 24 hours to do it correctly) then do a load test on the battery. The battery could have a sulfated cell and that means replacing the battery. The alternator could have a bad diode trio in it which will drain a battery pretty quick. The last thing would be some kind of a dead short.

Thanks, The main isue I am concerned about was the not restarting after the battery charge. I have nailed it down to a fuel isue. Can you tell me where is the fuel relay and or where is a place I might test the power for the fuel pump as I can't here it and there is no spray. Thanks, David

The fuel pump relay is mounted on the firewall just to the passenger side of center up near the top of the firewall. There is a red wire dangling from the wire connector which is meant so that you can add 12 volts there to force the pump to run which makes checking the pump easy.

Wow! thanks alot thats the first time iv'e herd that, and after 3 days of research.
I wondered what the wire was for, as far as the relay I just had put it back where I found it. The Chiltons manual did not show the wire colors matching that relay nor the location so I wasn't sure what it was for. Thanks again, David
