need help: keeping Q-Jet but removing emissions

What I've got:
'86 K5 with recently installed Jet Performance "Stage 1" remanufactured Q-Jet for an '84 K5. I chose the '84 version because it doesn't have the electronic interface - wanted to ditch that. The original '86 carb had been "rebuilt" by the P.O. and was totally fubar'd when I bought the truck. Truck runs much better with the new '84 carb., but still not right. Starts pretty easily, revs a little sluggishly in park/neutral and falls flat on it's face (bogs) when trying to accelerate in gear. Not sure if it's 1) ignition related, 2) incorrect tune on the new carb. or 3) incorrect the vacuum line connection.

What I want to do:
I want to start troubleshooting with the vacuum lines since I swapped from an '86 carb to an '84 carb. Since the truck is an '86 and is now emissions exempt here in Texas :woot:I want to ditch all the emissions except the PCV valve.

Where I need help:
1) can I run a vacuum line directly from the carb. to the vacuum adv. on the distributor? If so, which port is correct for an '84?

2) which other vacuum lines, valves, etc. can I remove or cap that are not required? IIRC, on an aftermarket carb. setup (Holley, Edelbrock) all you need is a vacuum signal to the advance on the distributor, direct manifold vacuum to the power brake booster and a vacuum line to the PCV valve on one valve cover, right? Can that setup be duplicated with an '84 Q-Jet?

TIA,
Rob

You might want to change to a straight forward HEI, non-computer controlled. You will also want to get an older carb, say 78 with electric choke. If you are going to run a carb like it should be, it needs to be a carb made for that. The CCC wont run right unless it's working with it's sensors. An older carb will do just what you want.

K85 - Thanks for your response. The '84 carb. has no computer interface and it *does* have an electric choke. As far as the distributor goes, I'm still running the original '86 distributor. I think it only has the power (BAT) feed, but I will check that this weekend.

Thanks,
Rob
