Just removed the tub from a 78 K5, and I'm looking for the VIN # on the frame. I didn't find anything on the passenger side frame rail where it is on the pickups, and I've looked around most of the top of both rails. Can anyone set me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Jeff

my 75 is on the pass side right by the transfer case crossmember

On my '76 K5, it's right around the engine mount on the top horizontal plane of the passenger frame rail. You'd look right at it if you were changing the fuel pump while laying on the radiator support.

I believe it's also on the drivers side rail under the floorboards, but I don't remember if I was ever able to see it there.

My 87 had it on top of the pass rail under the front floorboard area. It didn't show until I cleaned it with oven cleaner.

Always look on both side, pass, and driver, I had a 73 and a 74, one was on driver one was on passenger side.

my 74 frame (model year 75) was on both outer sides of the frame, below where the door would open, and also on top of the pass framerail directly above the axle centerline.

should look something like this:

Here you can see where its at in the reddish orange paint on the frame side:

That is not the VIN, all frames have this in the sam elocation on both sides, it's the date stamp with partial VIN
There should be another one, full VIN on top of the frame on either side but only one side, and it will be between the engine mount and the the driver seat. The location traveled along the years, but never went beyond the driver seat.
The earlier models where always around the engine mount location.

Thanks for all the help--I"ll post up again after I have a chance in the daytime to check out that frame again.
