i am planing on putting a rockford cd deck in my 1984 fullsize jimmy, i found out that the only place in town wants $75 to install the deck, and i am not gonna pay that, i was wondering if anyone has any pics on cutting it or any templates or anything that would help, i am not to crazy about cutting it open until i know exactly what i am doing, also what parts/pieces (install kit, etc...) should i get before attempting this thanks any help will be usefull

A jig saw works better and gives you more room to see what you are doing and room to work... just make sure like was mentioned above you start small and work your way to the opening you need. You can go big but you can't go back if you go too big. As for a kit to mount it see if you can find one made of metal. The plastic one I had broke and fell out. The vibrations and bumps were too much for it. Try that car place that wants the $75 to install it for the kit....

I used the radio sleeve as the template to make the marks then a dremel to do the actual cutting.

I have done a couple of them for myself and friends and here is my suggestion.......get the instalation kit that Crutchfield sells for $12.00. It comes with a finished black metal cover plate that serves as a template as well as covering any "imperfections". Definately worth the effort.

You can got to their website: www.crutchfield.com
or,
call them (recommended) at 1-888-955-6000

Their prices are a little high on equipment but they are unbeatable on customer service and having the expertise to solve your problems.

Those who think money can't buy happiness don't know where to shop.
