I have a 2001 Silverado 2500 HD with the 6.0 engine, and about 215,000 miles. I removed the bed to get access to a damaged brake line, so I thought I would replace the fuel pump while the bed was off. The replacement pump had a different plug, so I had to cut the harness and install the new plug. The new plug pigtail had the exact same color coding as the truck harness, and the position of each wire corresponded with the instructions. After splicing in the new harness, I started the engine and watched my fuel gage go past full, stopping at about the 5:00 position--it's stuck there. Pulled the new pump back out, checked the resistance at the two purple wires at the variable resistor, seems to check out ok, consistently. I'm not sure what I've done to cause this problem, and could use some help troubleshooting. The pump was a Delphi unit I bought from NAPA.

Any suggestions woud be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Looks like I fixed the problem. Disconnected the battery for a minute, re-connected and everyting seems to be OK now. Hopefully no more problems.

Yeah those new gauges have the memory to prevent the bouncing off the needle but when you shut off it will read correct the next time it comes on

Looks like I learned that the hard way Imiceman, but thankfully no harm done. Everything seems to work normal now. I'm pretty forntuante in that I've owned this truck since new and have had virtually no problems with it until now--paying the price for living on a dirt road. Definitley something to file away in the Rolodex on top of my shoulders.
