I'm looking to buy a new carb, but I don't know which one to buy. I know that the Edelbrock Q jet is suppose to be one of the best ones on the market right now but I don't really want to spend that much money. I am wondering if any body is using just an Eldelbrock performer and if so how does it work I'm looking to spend $200-$250.

AH the ageless question has been asked, now starts the debates......I'd go with the Quad.... set up right they're hard to beat and will almost keep the engine running upside down, I've parked on hills with my engine running for 15 minutes or more, (wouldn't recommend this) the same hill the Edelbrokes die on just trying to get to the top! If you can drop the bux go with fuel injection.

You know, you can "rebuild" most Q-jets for about $20 yourself, and buy rebuildable ones for about $5 at swap meets.

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

I would not give $.02 for a Performer carb. I have had 2 of them 1 was a 600 cfm and the other which I still have is a 750 cfm and have had nothing but problems with both of them. I would rather have a Holley over one of them. I would just rebuild the Q-jet or buy a rebuilt one and be done with it.

Well the Edelbrock Q-jet run's from 450 to 390.00 the Performer carb run's 200.00 to 320.00 I do have the performer carb on my 83 it's only a 600cfm I do like it, yes it has loaded up on me one time I love the Q-jet it's a great carb if I still had the one I built for my FJ-40 it would be on my K5 right now. When I built that one I got the book that has all the part# for stuff like jet's and rod's it had the trick's you can do to the carb to make it perform. That being said if you have the time I would go that way if you can't go with something like Holly's Pro-injection thats what I replaced that Q-jet with on that FJ-40. have fun.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just rebuild my Q-jet again!
