*Need help w/ lockrite install* update pg4

I finally got were I need to be axle shafts out and such but now Im trying to get the cross pin out of the diff and I know theres something that holds it in place and I cant find it :confused: I see there a little hole at just one side of the diff that goes vertical w/ the axle tubes but I look in it and its looks like a piece of metal or a bolt w/ the head sheared of, my one of my questions is, is there suppose to be a head on this piece of metal and it sheared off or is there somewhere else that hold the crosspin in?????????????????????? :1zhelp::1zhelp:

If it is a D60, you are looking at a drift pin. I just finished installing a Aussie Locker in a D44 about 30 Minutes ago. Just hit it out with a punch.
 
so I dont need this drift pin out (then what holds the cross pin in place??) and just hit it w/ a punch b/c I tried that and it didnt move and its a D60
 
I was looking at Tims pics of the install and he has out what Im talking about but it doesnt look like any tool fits it I trie a flat head screw driver but it wouldnt move

The drift pin holds the cross pin in place.
I can go out to the garage and take a pic of what i am taking about on the D44. I also have the stock open carrier for my D60 out there since i replaced it with a detroit.

I get that but how or what tool gets it out b/c mine just looks like a flat circle w/ a hole in it

please, but (just for no confusion) that pic isnt of my diff. its of Tims (84 chevy K10) that he did I was just trying to show what I was talking about

Just get a punch and hit it out with a hammer. It is a roll pin. The 10 bolts use a bolt instead. Just do exactly what you see in Tim's pictures and you will get it easy. I can go dig out my carrier or the 44 i have on the bench to show you if you would like. Just let me know
 
I see now I never saw the hole on the other side of the diff. can you punch it going the other way towards the passenger side

well I just f-ed up bad itstead using a punch (didnt have one small enough and not patince so wait and go to the store in the morning) I tried a screw driver and got it stuck in there so I try and pull it off and the handle comes off and bends the shaft at the end so now just the shaft is sticking out and I cant get it out:angry1::angry1::angry1::angry1::angry1::angry1:
 
My ex took good pictures of the entire process. Took me about an hour including removing the driver's side axleshaft.

The roll pin will come out ONLY when hit from left to right...in other words, punch goes in ring gear side, and roll pin comes out of the carrier that way.

I used the air hammer as you see in the pics because it was pissing me off.
 
is that roll pin hallow or something were that screwdriver could lodge in there b/c I cant get that screwdriver out
 
Use a smaller drift to drive it out.

Using the wrong tool for the job can often make it a PITA. Make sure you have the right size drift.
 
The carrier only costs $65 to remove and throw in the trash, I'll be damned if I'm giving the strap on guy $85 for a punch to remove a roll pin when I can buy an entirely new carrier for that with free shipping.
