ok first of vehicle specs

84k5, 6.5 diesel w/ mech. injector pump, th400 trans

there is a cable i broke when pulling the trans taht goes from the throttle at teh front of the engine, through the valley, and a tensioner? at the back of the engine to the vacuum modulator on the passengers side of the trans. i know it moves with the throttle position to create vacuum in the modulator in place of engine vacuum (diesel so none of that)

what is this called, all the dumbasses at parts stores here stare at me when i ask them

i gotta pick one up this week so when i put my trans back in i can get it all working, i dont think it will shift without the vacuum from the modulator

thanks all,

rick

It will shift without that.

Governor controls upshift, modulator controls how hard.

It's definitely not a TV cable, the TH400's only had a kickdown solenoid (electric).

So it simply uses mechanical pressure to simulate the vacuum in a gas setup? Bizarre. I'm sure our diesel guys will be in shortly with the right name. Never heard of such a thing, but I don't deal with the diesels.

Yeah, that's just a kickdown cable. Basically for using passing gear, from what I understand. My 700R4 has a T.V. cable, and I hear you're not supposed to drive without it....

Does it have cruise control??? Might have something to do with that.

Your thinking of a Th350,.The only cable a 400 has is for the speedo.

no this is deffinately a 400, and it has an electric kickdown, and the speedo cable is on the drivers side.

this goes to a modulator that sticks out of the passenger side of the trans. it pulls when the throttle is applied and provides vacuum

i guess i will cross post to the diesel forum

just talked to my tranny guy and he is on top of it, he is going to get one ordered for me but i still want to know what its called, he was busy and was like oh yea, no worries call you tomarrow w/ a part number

So am I right or wrong? TH400's dont have kickdown cables?

hahahaha yess, found it, GM decided to make this part exactly the same as the 700r4 kickdown cable
