ok first off vehicle specs

84k5, 6.5 diesel w/ mech. injector pump, th400 trans

there is a cable i broke when pulling the trans taht goes from the throttle at teh front of the engine, through the valley, and a tensioner? at the back of the engine to the vacuum modulator on the passengers side of the trans. i know it moves with the throttle position to create vacuum in the modulator in place of engine vacuum (diesel so none of that)

what is this called, all the dumbasses at parts stores here stare at me when i ask them

i gotta pick one up this week so when i put my trans back in i can get it all working, i dont think it will shift without the vacuum from the modulator

thanks all,

rick

I know what you're talking about, but don't know what you'd call it. However, I can tell you that your TH400 will not shift properly without any vaccum hooked up to it. It'll have short stacked shifts which is really hard on the transmission.

lame, i had a feeling that it wouldnt be too good for it. i need to find out what this thing is called so parts houses can have the monkey behind the counter type it in the computer.... btw why is it that 1 out of 30 people at those places know their ****t?

I betcha most of those guys are experts in one brand / model of vehicles. For us, that happens to be these 73-91 K5s, pickups etc, but if you were to ask me about some uncommon part like one of these vac modulator things on a Ford or Dodge, I'd probably look at you cross eyed too, lol

I recall having read a thread about these things a while back, and I think they are mostly found on military 6.2L engines since thats where you'll find a 6.2L / TH400 combination.

What exactly is broken on yours? Can you get a couple pictures of it? I'll do some searching and see if I can find a GM part number or something for you in the mean time

oh no worries, i called my tranny guy and he is gettin me a part number tomarrow sometime. he instantly knew what i was talking about and sayd he would make some calls tomorrow and get me a part number, but he was real busy and had to go right away, so no name, tomorrow i guess

thanks tho

think i found it, and how nice too, GM decided to make the modulator cable the exact same part as a 700r4 TV cable.

hoooray! now to go to napa tomorrow

i did some seaching then tried ebay, found the exact part i have for a modulator and then asked the seller what cable it used, i had to feign like i was going to buy his 125 dollar part
but w/e lifes gotta move on... thanks for trying man!
