my 91 700r4 has a strange problem. if I'm accelerating, it wont shift to 2nd, just keeps reving higher. but if I let off the gas a little and the reapply it, it will shift. the rest of the gears seem fine, just 1-2 shift.
any ideas?
btw, i changed the fluid a couple of months ago, no metal and fluid was pretty clean.:dunno:

What about deceleration, will it shift ok then? I had this same issue in my old '91 and ended up having to rebuild. The clutch packs were bad and the servo was replaced. Hopefully this won't be your problem though.:wink1:

yeah, downshift is fine. also checked the cable adjustment and it's good.

My experience is that the WOT 1-2 shift happens at a higher rpm than the 2-3 or 3-4, so a little is normal. You could try loosening the TV cable 1 click and see if that's all it needs.

I run a Camaro governor in mine because I thought the shift points were too low. This makes the rpm for the WOT 1-2 shift so high I've never found it. So I just lift my foot a little when I want to shift. It's probably also due to the B&M modified 1-2 shift valve and the rest of the Super TransKit parts.

I'm just saying that if lifting your foot a bit to shift isn't a hassle, there's no need to rebuild an otherwise good transmission.
