I have a friend with a 2007 Tahoe that the "driver Information center" has gone black on him.

He has looked for a fuse for the DIC but there isn't one listed for it.

I looked it over for him and I was starting to pull the guage cluster out of it to check for a burned bulb or check the connections but I ran out of time so I just put it back together.

I tried to Google for info on the problem but I couldn't find anything that way.

Any help from the brotherhood would be greatly apprecitaed.

They just short out. Basically, i think the circuit boards they use suck.

Our went off and on for a while, then died for good.

I JUST replaced the one in my parents 07 a couple weeks ago. The dealer charges $7-900 to do the job. I did it for WAY less. Install was under an hour, and that was with about 5 beers :doah::thumb:

The catch is there are tons of variations on the look of the gauges, and they MUST be properly programmed by someone capable of inputting the vin, options, etc. or they won't work.

Better to order a reman from someone who includes programming, than find a used one and hope it works and pay someone $100+ to program it.

I ordered from these guys, and had good luck.

They were about $350 + $100 core.

A specific listing would be like :

I didnt' end up buying through ebay. I just emailed the company, and purchased directly.

I sent them a pic of my dash, to make sure i got the right style, and they got it close, but +/- some chrome trim rings. Oh well.

Works great now!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

EDIT: Oh, and there is a great video on youtube that shows you how to take it out w/o breaking everything in the POS plastic dash.

Thanks for the info.

Do I understand you correctly? The small DIC readout and the shift indicator is where his problem is at, will he have to replace the whole guage cluster or just the digital readout section?

Whole deal, unfortunately. Our gauges worked fine, but to get the DIC and shift indicator back, you have to replace it all. :doah:

Only trouble i ever had wiht my 91 gauges is when my speed sensor wires cracked and arc'd to each other......

Might check with GM, may be a recall item, not sure how long they honor the recalls, but i seem to remember a friend saying he had his covered on his when it did that, sounds like a somewhat common problem with those dashes.

Yea, my 04' Yukon XL (2500) had the entire cluster replaced under warranty as well. I'd at least check into it from the dealer....you never know.

We looked into it at a dealer on our 07 before i replaced it (thats how i got a dealer quote ), and there was no coverage.
