Need help with my stepsons truck. Long story short, his dad had his mechanics convert his truck to FiTech so I wasn’t part of the install process. Had to fix issues here and there and learn how to program a lot of the settings on the monitor. We have had it running great for a cpl months. Had an issue other day where it wouldn’t rev past 2500 RPM. Found breaks in the distributor wires. Fixed that. Doing fine until today, turned truck off, then won’t start. Sprayed starting fluid, runs off the fluid which leads me to believe the pump is bad (only couple months old). The pump (in line pump, I think FiTech brand black) sounded different than usual after turning the key on, usually it has a consistent “tone” but after it didn’t want to start, it was “pulsating”. Gave up for the night but my plan was to run to AutoZone in the morning and grab a new pump for it. What pump does everyone recommend I should get? What works well with this system. It’s the go street 400 system. Thanks

I prefer the in tank pump over the in line. However I’ve used the inline summit pump on two applications with FiTech and they’ve been fine.
I prefer in tank as well, I just was hoping to go to AutoZone tomorrow and grab a new pump to get it running for the weekend. Had a trip to the mountains planned tomorrow.

Before you go swapping the pump, verify it's still got good voltage on it (while connected). Could be a simple wiring issue. Maybe make sure the pump has a good ground and isn't just grounding through the mount or something. Check the fuel filter and while you're there - make sure there's gas in the tank!

Those are all good things to check but unfortunately the pump he’s using has a really bad track record and is more than likely the culprit.

If you’re running the FiTech filter after the pump I would recommend swapping over to the OE style canister filter that’s been used for years on the Vortec trucks. I’m not sure the range of years they came on but my 97 and 02 use it. If you’re running AN fuel line and fittings there are adapters available so changing the filter is quick and easy.

Thanks for the responses! Also had some guy on Facebook sayin he had same issue on his and turned out filter was clogged maybe pulled some crap from the bottom of the tank. Another guy suggested reverse polarity on the pump and run for a min to see if the pump wasn’t clogged up as well. Idk. I’ve read bad reviews on that pump. I think just making it in tank would be best.

I agree, the in tank setup should be your end goal. I switched over to the K5 tank and used the EFI sending unit and the EP381 pump but a few members here have done the same with the saddle tank(s). @mrk5 @Kay86K5

A genuine walboro gsl 392 is a good pump as well and can be had for under $100 online. It's what I've been running on my blazer as the tank swap is a bit more work on the 1st Gen blazer than it is on the later years.

I run a ep381 in a TBI fuel sender. I have a baffled efi-style tank but I don't think it matters. If you have an inline pump, I'd keep a second one in the truck just in case.

Took a pic of the setup. took both filters off, I believe the one before the pump is a check valve? Sound right? Both branded FiTech. Anyway took em both out and sprayed with cleaner. About half can worth.....no luck. The pump is kinda “pulsating” while the key is on. Just gonna order a new pump and go from there. My stepson got grounded by my GF today and lost the truck for a while anyway,...so not in a rush to fix anymore. :haha:
I’ll wait for a new pump to come in and go from there.

Is that pump lower than the tank?

Check out page 3/11 in the installation manual.

I want to just get a new TBI tank and just run an in tank setup. Especially cuz I hate hearing that loud pump on the frame. I’m gonna have to talk to his dad about buying all those parts so we can do it correctly.
