alright here is the story (gotta tell yall)

i ordered a set of gas tank straps for my burb last weekend from advance auto parts...well today i got to pick them up and only one came in for some reason but i was charged for 2...i was pissed..none elce has them in stock here (not even a dealer)...

i need them tomm cause im going wheeling on friday and working late on thursday and will have to time to put them on...

so basically i told the guy to gimme the one and then somehow i would make one and so he said thats fine...then when we were done (getting various parts) he told me i had to pay full price (for 2) if i only wanted one even though it was theyre mistake...he was the manager too...i had about 30 bucks in oil,ect and told him i didnt want one bit of it...

so my question is what can i do to hold my gas tank up for a 500 mile trip...i have rachet straps holding it up right now but i just dont know if they can hold 30 gallons of fuel...

i can barrow my buddies straps from his blazer but will they work on the burb...

any help would be great guys...

Straps are straps, for the same tank size -- if your tank is a 31 gallon and your buddy's Blazer is a 31 gallon, for instance, they should fit. Assuming the years are close. You can look in LMC's catalog for that Blazer, and then for that Burb, and see if they're the same part #.

Gas weighs about 8 pounds the gallon, so a ~30 gallon tank is about 250 pounds ... if they're, say, a 1-1.5" strap that should be within their weight rating. Now, the instant you drag one of them across a rock or a stump and tear them ... you're screwed. (Unless you have a skid plate -- which you don't mention.)

If you have a welder or a friend with one, you can make the straps easily enough ... get some ~1/8" x ~2" flat stock and some all-thread and/or some solid stock and/or bolts, and go to town. :deal:

no skip plate and the burb is my tow rig...im confused though because a few parts stores say i they list a 35 gallon tank but the dealer says only a 31 and a 40...i guess i need to go mesure it...if i use the rachet staps im gonna use as many as i can

If you go buy some good Heavy Duty 2 or more inch wide ratchet straps you should be fine. If you can rig them doubled up I am sure they would work. Then you have excellent straps to use for other stuff once you get the real gas tank straps.

yeah i just went and bought some 1 inch wide ones...they say the can handle 500 lbs working load...im gonna use like 6 just for insurance...i have more use for the 1 inch later than the 2 inch
