My column is kind of jacked and sometimes it wont make contact unless i wiggle it around.

I'm just going to pull the wheel lock out and wire my "key on" power off a switch i already use for my msd box. Also going to add a push button start.

I've googled but came up empty.

Pretty sure the purple is what i want for the push button.

Does anyone know what wire in the column harness i need to cut and wire to my switch?

You won't have to do anything in the column. At the base of the column is where you actual switch is, and an actuator rod from the key moves said switch.

Hopefully someone has done it recently, but i think its kinda on top of the bottom of the column, on the drivers side.

Somethign like this. Take a look for it, and you shoudl see your standard red, orange/yellow?, black, purple wires in it. Not positive on colors. This is where you want to tap all your manaul swiches in.

new ignition key switch under 20 bucks to fix sloppy key unit.

new ignition switch down under dash on colume 20-30 if i recall.

this should fix the problem.

i have fixed a few with no start or hard to kick starter problems with new ignition switch before and over the years thay get WHIPPED bad over years.

1 guy had one that was 1/2 time no crank and got so bad he put in new starter / batt and alt still no fix. i poped in the ignition switch and perfect till truck just died last week ran fine for over 5 years with that cheep fix.

Sweet! That's what I needed.

Really, i didn't think about it, buy sweetk30 is right.

Buy a new switch, new key cylinder, and see if that solves your issue.

If not, you just need to have a toggle Ign switch, and a momentary push start button. No relays, etc. needed

Eh. Id rather have the toggle and push button anyways.

Any one have a good way of doing this? Im thinking all complicated with relays and switches and leds.

But that doesn't sound fin.

That's how my blazer is done. I have a continous duty solenoid that handles alot of stuff. When you flip the switch, that solenoid fires and provides power to alot of relays that run other the other stuff, like the distributor.

The starter though, is just a 12v+ to a momentary push button and on down to the starter solenoid itself.

All you need to do is hook up a push button to the thick purple at the neutral safety switch and the other side of the switch to a 12V hot wire ,to make it crank....the toggle switch for the ignition will need a 12V source to one side, and the other to the thick pink or red wire to the HEI coil to give it spark....I'd suggest fixing the original ignition though--its way too easy to STEAL a truck with a toggle and push button "overides"..:doah:
