Man, I was set on getting a quardrajet, talked to summit about it ,and they say the intake (2101 edelbrock)won't accept a quardrajet they say. Im needing a new carb and don't know which direction to turn. My basic setup is as follows= stock 350 ,headers, edelbrock 2101 intake. The guy at summit swore by the holley off road carb, but I just don't know. Can you guys lead me in the right direction? I would really like to get it going so I can wheel!? I didn't know ordering a carb cld be such a PITA! Also has anyone bought the holley truck avenger? I know the consensous is quadrajet round here,is there an adapter I can buy to make a QJ work on my manifold?? Thanks!:thumb:

guys full of chit and just trying to sell ya a holley.. that intake is a dual pattern and a quad will bolt right up.. no adapter needed..

First off, yes, there should be a square bore to spread bore adapter available, there may be complications(linkages etc) but I'm not sure.
I have not owned a truck avenger but lots of guys have and like them, I have owned a street avenger, very similar IIRC, and was pleased with it. I liked the avenger much better then the edelbrocks I had owned in the past, and they are not bad to work on and tune/adjust.
What ever you do go with don't over carb it, a stock 350 doesn't need a monster carb, 600cfm or less should be plenty :D

well obviously im partial to my magical invisible carb (6.2 diesel), but i LOVED my 750 q-jet in my first car, a 1977 olds, with a chevy 350, milled heads, performance cam, and z28 valvesprings. if you could stay out of the loud pedal you could get decent mileage, but when you whomped open those secondaries, get the women and chillin off the streets. :woot:

What about jet performance? I wanted to not rush into this and end up w buyers remorse lol. I need to get it nailed down to a part number .after researching on here it looks like the q jet is the way to go. But witch one? Lol

I have had good luck with Edlebrock carbs they run great right out of the box and get OK fuel mileage. A holley may get you better performance but it will take some tinkering to get there. But that is just been my experence I have a friend that had an Edlebrock and hated it from the day he bought it.

I had a jet stage two purchased off the classifieds here and it worked great on my 350, moved to the 454 now. Noticeable performance gain over my old holley. Noticeable performance gain over the stock qjet on my dually. I am very satisfied with the qjet.

give jet a call and tell em what your running... $442... i don't think thats unreasonable at all...

Thx man I'll do just that. Do u think the jet would b better than the holley ? Fyi where the confusion starts is holley advertises an off road carb and I don't understand why jet doesn't advertise their carb to be necessarily an off road carb I think ? So to someone like me doesn't know any better holley would b the first choice. But I'm going to call jet and ask them a bunch of questions. Do you think that jet is better than the holley side by side running at angles and or performance-wise?

For a truck the Jet Qjets would be far better overall than the holley.

The stage 2 is already tuned to run well on a strong somewhat hopped up small block, and the basic design of the Q jet is better for offroad use with the fuel bowl being in the center of the carb, whereas the holley will have a fuel bowl on the front and back with that vent tube connecting both of them. Small primaries are good too for fuel economy.

quad's don't need to be "advertised" as offroad.. their design inherently has great off-camber capabilities...

for any stock to moderate mill, I'll take the quadrabog, hands down, no contest.... 1000hp? yeah i'll be running a holley dominator...

maybe if ya stuff a dead squirrel in the primary... :woot:

Do either of you or anyone else have any farmiliarity with SMI carbs? I was reading in a post the other day about them.

I asked very much this same question a few days ago and was directed to SMI. they seem to have a good carb and have worked the kinks out of the Q jet. like the bleed down issue and couple other things. I'll be going with their offroad Qjet . same price as the holley truck avenger. $359.00
