I have an 81 k30 with the hydro boost brakes and power steering. And I'm having a weird issue where the power brakes seem to work just fine but the power steering is completely non existent. Drives, turns, and feels just like the couple old ones I've driven that were pre power steering.

That kind of boggles me since the 2 systems are running off of the same pump and fluid . :dunno:

Any ideas?? All I have thought of is a gummed up steering gear.

I didn't even know that was possible lol.

I have a steering gear that works, but leaks. I didn't want to go through resealing it, (bought the rebuild kit for my 2wd box for future crossover), changing it, and bleeding the system. Just to find out I was looking in the wrong place lol.

Since some lines connect up at the booster I wasn't sure if something in there can block a passage or whatever, which is why I figured I'd ask here .
I've never worked on a hydroboost setup before, and have very little actual experience working on power steering beyond changing pieces that are blatantly bad.

Unhook the hoses and see if fluid will run through them. That will tell you if one is blocked. Loosen at the box and just crank it over. Starting the engine will spray crap everywhere. Check pressure side first. If you have flow there, check the return.

I'll have to do that when I get it back running.

I'm sort of debating just rebuilding my 2wd box and forking up the cash for crossover parts now if it does turn out to be a bad steering box.

Seems easier than rebuilding and swapping the box twice.

Just not sure of the funds for that...
