I just bought a 1991 Jimmy. The rear window worked fine the first two times I lowered and raised it. Both the switch on the dash and the key on the tailgate worked. The third time I lowered it, it will not raise.

The motor is working and the cable is turning. As the glass is completely down in the tailgate, I can not get to the Regulator to see what the problem is. I have tried to manually pull the glass up but it will not budge, and I don't want to break it.

How do I get the glass back up at this point?

My last two blazers were a 70 and a 71, so I'm new at all this electrical stuff.

just remove the trim panel and then the access cover. You will see the cable from the motor to the transmision, unscrew it at the top. put a cordless drill on it, and raise the window. Now you can get to the plug on the motor with a test light. Trouble shooting is easy from there.

Is the tailgate shut all the way? There is a safety switch (drivers side latch I think)...if thats open the window won't go up.

Most people bypass the switch. If you search around you should find the answer. I know I've seen this topic before.

On my truck I had a problem with the cable housing pulling away from the end of the cable. It's kind of hard to explain, but the end of the cable that threads onto the motor pulled away from the housing making the housing too long for the core. The core then doesn't engage the motor or the gearbox that is on the regulator. Even though the cable turns, it doesn't do anything. If you need to get the glass out to work on it, the glass is bolted to the regulator mechanism and can be pulled out after the bolts are taken out. I think you need to take a couple of pieces off the top of the tailgate to completely remove it.

Looks like mine is like yours. Once I unbolted the glass from the regulators, I was able to see that the cable was not engaging the gears on the regulator. Looks like a pretty cheesy way for it to hook up to the regulators. It is screwed into the motor but just friction fit to the regulator gears. I'll have to come up with a clamp or something to keep it connected.
Thanks
