:waytogo::waytogo:I'm rebuilding a 205 and at the moment I'm at a standstill due to this big snap ring. I've tried using the snap ring pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, and every other tool I had, but can't seem to get this thing on. Is there a special tool to installing these. I think I just used pliers and flathead screwdriver to remove it ( it's been awhile). The ring is fairly thick and doesn't want to bend very much.:dunno:

do you have a Hi-lift? :haha::haha:

I used two big screwdrivers and wedged them together to spread the ring (wear your safety glasses) until it was spread enough to clear the shaft OD, then I removed the screwdrivers and pushed the ring into the groove with a punch and hammer. try not to spread it alot, or it will be loose in the groove.

yeah, I'll getting a set off of ebay this payday myself...doing the vss swap on my 241:waytogo:

The rebuild kit also came with these. I'm guessing they will go in place of the other one. They appear to be the same size. My pliers shown in the first pic won't open them up far enough to go on either. What gives? I guess I need a bigger pair of pliers to open the ring up more.

Borrowed a set of pliers like you guys recommended from a friend of mine. The damn thing went right on! It definetly helps to have the right tools. Thanks guys!

Yes, those style are the real deal, and they will take off if you slip on the pliers, I just lost one today. :whistle:

Yep. Mine I put together wrong :rolleyes:. Put one of the shift forks in backwards. But I upgraded to 32 spline front and fixed yolk rear with elec speedo mod.

But I will admit, mine may or may not of had water in it for an extended period of time.......

A side note, mine I always felt was sloppy (twinsticks) and I dont have a 4wd light. So I took my detent springs out, and shimmed them with a few washers and tightened the plugs back up, very positive feel now. I know when its in and can feel it much better.
