Need help with speakers in front doors!

You can pick up 1" spacers from any stereo store. Just make sure they match your speakers. I picked up a set and had to do a little modification to make the speakers fit them Then when I put the grill rings on they are bigger than the spacers. It looks like crap. I am going to use them for now and build new ones................

i got 6.5's up front and 6x9's in the back. if i had a choice i would probably want the front ones mounted higher cuz i dont like having them that far down there, cuz sometimes water likes to come really close to seeping inside when im out muddin, but i havent had any major problems yet. i would also probably want to mount the 6x9's on the other side of the wheel well (closer to the back seats) if i had a choice but thats where they all were when i bought it. heres some pics: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/602933/4

What kind of power are you running? I put a 12 in the back and thought I was going to break my back window.

Doesn't breaking windows constitute "filling in the hollowness"? LOL I'm running an Alpine V12. Beautiful little unit running around 250 W I guess. Truly great amp, you would definitely think I was running something bigger. Check it out if you are in the market.

Thanks but I have aroung 7000 watts worth of amp sitting in my garage right now. I was drinking a couple of weeks ago an decided to build a system for the Blazer:2 farad of cap, 1400 watts, a 12 and 4 mids. I took it all out the next weekend because it shook the inside sheetmetal too much.
BTW It is all Alphasonik 1ohm stable amps. Most bang for the buck availiable right now. Just stay away from the mids/highs....they are inefficient junk.

Wankers!! Put 4 15's in the back, screwdrivers through the stockers and screw the lyrics, you should know them by heart anyway...

Well, I realize this thread is about a year old now but I thought I would just give you guys an update and post some pics to let you know how I ended up finally doing the stereo system in my '88 K5. Hopefully some of you that are thinking about doing this can get some ideas from it.

This is the first time I've attempted to do much custom stereo stuff so it was truly a learning experience. The lower door panels are constructed of marine grade 1/4" plywood and the front part that the 6.5" speaker is mounted in is a piece of 3/4" plywood layed over top and cut at a 45 deg. angle. I had paint custom mixed at Home Depot but the color ended up a little bit off. It also probably would have looked nicer if I used black mounting hardware rather than silver but I guess I can change that later. The panels that I mounted the 6x9s in are made of 1/4" plywood and are covered in vinyl. After that stuff was done, I played around with subwoofer styles and decided the best choice was to make a thin box for one 10" sub. The box is made of 3/4" MDF and I made a grille with wire mesh to protect it and covered it in speaker cloth. I originally wanted to mount it back in the side panel but came to the conclusion that it would be hard to make work. The amplifier fit nicely under the driver seat. I'm actually a little dissapointed with my head unit's internal amp so I really need to go with an external amp mounted under the passenger seat to power my speakers.

Hope this helps some of you,

Wes
