need help with tbi

I am having a problem with my 87 k5. When i put it in gear it dies. It will idle just fine in park. You can even power break it and runs just fine. I don't know what it is. I did replace igniton control modle.

hillbilly fix would be to bump up the idle, but that wouldnt really be right.

when was the last time you changed the fuel filter? air filter? or replaced the catalytic converter?

how were your NOx at your last emissions check?

timing could also be off.

Have you checked for vaccum leaks, broken/cracked vac lines, TB base gasket leaks?
Have you checked for trouble codes?
Tune up. Plugs, wire, cap and rotor?

Another vote to check for vacuum leaks. A stethoscope works great.

TBI base gasket has my vote.

Could your EGR valve be stuck. It stuck once on my corsica and it would idle fine, but as soon as I put it in gear it would stall.

id replace the throttle body gasket as well just cause its a decent problem on our trucks, it takes 5~10 min to replace and its like 2$.
