NEED HELP!

I'm just going off of what the previous owner told me. But after seeing his shotty work!!! I'm starting to thing it's a 203. Me to! I'm running out of time
You can identify a 203 by the metal tag that identifies it as such , but these are usually missing or caked with grease or mud , so you can't see it. Np 203 has 3 sections: the front low range box , the middle where the chain is , and the rear tail housing . The 205 is pretty much one piece. The 203 also has a unique shifter that looks like a little box that I heard was made for GM by hurst.

If you find out that you have a 203, you might want to check the shifter itself . My old 79 Cheyenne k5 had the 203 . I had a problem with the Tcase not wanting to shift out of 4low. After I took the trans hump cover off , I saw that the shifter was pretty rusty and mud caked. I decided to take the shifter off cleaned it and soaked it in oil. I was able to get the Tcase to 2hi by using a pair of small vise grips on the lever that sticks out the side of the case that the shift rods attach to. (while the shifter was soaking in oil)

Don't do the visegrip deal . I don't want you to strip anything out.

I've been searching for new transfer case linkages and not a twin stick. Any tips on where to find one?

I meant to say that all 78 k5's from the FACTORY that I have seen have had NP203's.If indeed the Tcase is 205, the shift rails themselves are pretty easy to take out and inspect . Of course before you do that , check your shifter. The shift rails on a 205 can be removed by taking out the "poppet" screws/ springs/ balls on the top of the case. There are two. Use a pen magnet to get the ball out after the screw/ spring has been removed. The shift rails should be able to then be removed.
You forgot to mention the pins that hold the rails in to remove them. You have to remove plugs to access them . Might be a pain to do with the 205 in the vehicle .

So I removed my panel on the floor board that covers the transmission. All my shifter bolts were loose. I jacked the rear end of the truck up and the tires move. But once I put it on the ground it doesn't move under its own power. Once I kill the truck tranny fluid pukes out of the weep hole
