of the back of my pickup, into my buddy's Jimmy's cargo area.

So he went out and got a CUCV with a blown 6.2, his rig was all sorts of rotted and wheeled, so we took the engine out of his Jimmy and put it in the CUCV, not quite done yet, but to make room we put the 6.2 in my pickup for the time being, now I gotta get this thing outa there and we no longer have a hoist of any kind, any ideas? Oh ya the major problem is it's in a stock Ranger, and his Jimmy's tailgate sits about 8-10" higher, so I can't slide it across.

We have a come along, but nothing to vertically mount it to in order to lift it, no trees, etc. Nothing inside the Jimmy to mount the come along to to ratchet it up, that'll hold 5-7 hundred pounds. I need this thing outa my pickup I think I heard it cry when we hoisted the engine into the bed.

So far I came up with 2x4s, plywood so slide it up, if I could get a bunch of dowels or round stock to roll it up like building pyramids style, and keep moving the rollers in the back up front... but I have nothing like that. Plus.. balancing that engine might be kinda difficult.

Oh and on a side note, normal 6.2 12v starter from a diesel GM work with the 139 tooth starter on the CUCV? He had a 168 or whatever tooth flywheel/clutch with a manual, and we retained the flywheel on that 6.2 with the th400 trans. Since we're definitly not going through the trouble to keep the 24v starting system. Wiring's a nightmare right now.

Figure out where you want it and back up and slam on the brakes, trust me it will come out. :haha:

I can get it out of the pickup np, but getting it INTO the Jimmy is the issue. :thumb:

Oh and btw if anyone nearby wants the block and all the diesel wiring outa the CUCV lemme know. Otherwise he's scrapping it all to recoup costs, we have no where to keep this stuff. Oh ya and $450 for it all. :woot:And it's name is Nom Nom. And local peeps for the front bumper if wanted.

Air down the rear tires on the Jimmy until the trucks sit nearer to level. If it's still not close drive the rear of your truck onto one or two 2x6's. Then plywood between one truck and the other. Hopefully some burly plywood...

With two of you you should be able to 'walk' it into the Jimmy by rotating it on the pan back and forth. This wouldn't be a good time to wear flip flops.

I don't know what a 6.2 weighs but it taken a 350 Shortblock out it a truck without a hoist, into a garage and then into a lifted k10 using a two wheel dolly . It took 2 or 3 guys to do it.

If you can get it on the hand truck put two guys on the ground and two in the truck bed?

Hmmm... thought about that but the idea didn't pop up to put the rear tires on something, though we did say we wished we had one of those ramps. Other thing, will each tailgate support a diesel block. One way to find out Could prop some 2x4/4x4s under it. Think I'll give it a whirl. -nothing to remove valve stems, nor anything to fill it back up, but I'll figure out that later :D

Is a 6.2 that much heavier than a 350? It's not fun, but my freind and I lifted mine out of his s10 pickup and carried it into my garage and stuck it on my engine stand to tear it down. The block is currenly in my basement after I moved and no longer have a garage, we had to carry down the steps. I've carried a bare block by myself bear hugging it. It sucks, but it can be done.

It's heavier than a small block, but lighter than a big block...

I'd prolly go rent a hoist.

I don't know exactly how much a 6.2 weighs but I can say it weighs more than a BBC. From some quick searching it appears to be around 750 lbs. A complete BBC weighs in at 685 lbs.

Are both rigs driveable? If so bolt a chain to the motor, go to a business that has a forklift and offer someone 5-10 bucks to swap them out real quick, cant be more than 5 min of there time, or you could rent a cherry picker for an hour or two and not risk any damage to your rigs.

I 2nd the motion about forklift.

Otherwise, Air down the taller truck, use 2 x 4s and pour some motor oil or grease on the 2 x 4s, itll slide with very lil effort.

Personally, I think your over thinking it. :D

Well it's just me right now, the guy who's motor it is is somewhat unreliable. I built an engine pallet tonight. Jimmy's not drivable. I thought about oil. I'll finger it out, I think I just wanted to build something to do this. :D I needed to get out and putz around today... till I got frustrated because my drill was dead, and the only nails I had were like 3" long

air down all tires on the taller truck, If you have them ramps to change oil would work on the other truck or put it on jack stands. You could even pull the wheels off the taller truck and lower it down so they are even. Use the come along.

Redi rental. Rent a hoist. Be easy on your back. No need for anyone or any rigs to get damaged

If he's simply going to scrap it anyway, why dont you take it to the scrapyard FOR him,and deduct some gas money from the sale of it??..they'll have a loader to pick it up with there,or youcould just push it out,or use the back up and slam the brakes on method!...

Personally I dont see why you couldn't jack up the lower truck by using blocks unser the tires, and a hunk of 3/4" plywood to bridge the gap between the two trucks and slide it in his Jimmy.if its too hard to do by hand, use the come-a-long ro drag it it,hook a chain across the front seat bases..I have dragged dead garden tractors into a caravan using an electric winch attached to a 2x5 I put across the dront of the seats several times ,no sweat!..heck,I have used a kids swingset and a clothes line made of pipe to lift a pickup bed off before...

Because until he sells the rest of his Jimmy, we're waiting to see if anyone wants to buy a 6.2 block and diesel parts from the cucv, still have a week or two time to button up the CUCV and get a few things from the Jimmy. Just hoping someone wants this stuff before we scrap it all. The block is ok, 'needs top end work' according to the PO, missing injector pump, but otherwise it's all there.

It's done, done enough that I care. Put it on his trailer, backed the pickup to it, slight difference with the tailgate/trailer so I put some wood underneath. Little man handling, clever ratchet strap work, and about 45 minutes of my time. It's his problem now :D Blocked and braced the engine on the pallet I built. That's a heavy sonuvagun. I had it almost perfect, went to adjust it a bit and it toppled over, but I was able to lift it back up.
