I have decided to put an LS motor in my 86 K5. Talked to a few guys about this, now I'm starting to gather all the info and parts I will need.

Have some question.
Which motor mounts work best.
Should I do drive by wire or cable
Which fuel pump works best. Guess I need to get a newer tank and sending unit.
I do have Efilive for my dmax so hopefully that will be helpful on the computer end.

Everyone I talked to about say this is not that hard to do.
So any inside about this undertaking would be greatlly appreciated.

"Which motor mounts work best"
You have many options here. Just search around the internet and forums and you'll find a lot of information. I'm going to put a call into Dirty Dingo to see what may work best for my application. I like the fact that theirs is adjustable front to back.

"Should I do drive by wire or cable"
Personally, I would use what your donor motor comes with. The DBW is easy to hook up if you have the pedal and harness that comes with the motor. If it's cable driven, just work with that and save your money.

"Which fuel pump works best"
I did what Folkenheath recommended and it was an easy modification. Read my thread that you commented on earlier and you'll see some part numbers and links for the fuel system.

"Guess I need to get a newer tank and sending unit"
I went with a 4 outlet sending unit (feed, return, vent, and filling tube hookup)

"I do have Efilive for my dmax so hopefully that will be helpful on the computer end"
I'll be using HP Tuners... not sure about EfiLive?

I have a guy getting me a LS 6.2, so I'm sure it will be DBW.
As for fuel tank mine was not fuel injected, so they show a different one for '87/'91
I will just order a new from Classic Parts, and also get a sending unit that takes a in tank pump.

As for motor mount I will have to look at those, I would like to find some that will mount the motor so I do not have to move the tranny/transfer case.

You need to make a call to these guys http://pacificfab.net/

Kevin is the owner and a personal friend of mine and Jason who works for Kevin is also another personal friend and they do LOTS and I do mean LOTS of LS engine swaps and they sell everything you'll need.

Thanks I will look at there stuff and give them a call. I have just been told and read so much stuff I start to get confussed on which way to go and what I will needs far as parts to make this work.

LS swap huh,.........:waytogo:

Like Scott said, Pacific Fab is supposed to "the guys" on LS swap stuff, if you are into the "ultimate adventure" , they are the ones who had the tubed out, fiberglass bodied white K5 sort of rig, with the late model front clip (06ish), here is a Link to that truck http://www.pacificfab.net/kevin-blazer.htm :D

If your gonna run the 700r4 and dbw you have to find some way to hook up the detent right on the pedal cause there is no linkage at the throttle body. I used the dirty dingo mounts and was very happy with them my engine is pushed all the way back to keep my 350/np208 in the stock spot, if I wanted to move it forward I would have to change out the factory engine crossmember.

The fuel injection tank has baffels in it to help prevent starvation I think that's the only difference.
I used a walbro 255 pump and ran new -6 lines all the way up to the motor that pump can support up to 500hp I think just have to run bigger fuel lines.

You can pm me if you have any questions.

There is a link in my sig to a tech article i wrote on my LS swap. I did all the reworking of the harness myself it is pretty simple. Being you already have EFI live you should be set for tuning, you will be able to turn the VATS off thru EFI.

For the fuel Tank spend the money and get the newer baffled tank, i ran the un baffled for a while but when i started requiring more fuel for my modified LS engine, i ran into issues, below a quarter tank my fuel trims would lean out to the point that i could not go into boost with out lean pops. This is a easy way to blow the engine up.

Also a engine that new will have the returnless fuel rail so you could use the setup that i originally used that is detailed on my write up with the corvette fuel filter. I recently switched to s different setup becasue i was having delivery issues but i also am making way more power than stock.

If you have any more questions just ask

With the power that 6.2 will produce, you may want your "guy" get a 4l80e. You can use the same mount, just might have to move it back.
you'll have stronger trans and [with the right harness]you won't have any detent issues with the 700r.
As for any other questions, read the few LS build treads around here.

As someone mentioned above.... how are you going to control the 700R4's TV cable with a DBW throttle body? With that said, I would take buefchris's advice and try and find a 4L80e to partner with the new 6.2.

But then again, maybe this road has been crossed and a "kit" exists to get around this issue.

Talk to a guy here that does them, he said i need to just do drive by wire in mine. He just pull a 5.3 out of his '83 swb and put in a 6.2.

So i'm going to go by and see it soon. He said just get the motor and we can make it work.

Check to see what trans your buddies using... if it's a T350, T400, or manual trans, then he's not taking into account the TV cable. I'm not saying it cant be done. I'm just curious how it's going to work? You have to have a TV cable and it has to work correctly or the 700R4 will burn up quickly. Ask me how I know :-)

There is stuff at there to hook up the 700r4. He said that making it work is no big deal.

Just order dirty dingo motor mounts. Also order a new gas tank and sending unit from Classic Parts to get started.

They haven't been able to get a 6.2 yet, but said the had some new low milage 5.3's. So I'm thinking of getting one of them for now and keep looking for a 6.2 to swap out later if I think it needs it.
