I can get a complete suburban it's a 1988, 3/4 ton, 454 for dirt cheap. The catch the engine needs a rebuilt. Ballpark figure and on the cheap how much will it cost to rebuild the 454? I figure stock with a better cam.

Next question will the 454 mate to the 400 tranny which is connected behind a 350 currently? Do they have the same bolt pattern or will I have to change the case on the 400?

Reason is I currently have a 350, carb. I can then make it a 454 with TBI and complete wiring and computer is there to convert.

Yes small and big blocks have the same bell bolt pattern.
Even on the cheap a rebuild can cost over $1K for a BBC.

A true and complete rebuild on a 454 in your area should run you closer to 2K

that's what I was even more afraid OF!:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1:

big block need big pockets filled with money. You can do it on a budget but go medium and you will be happy in the long run, i used a shop in santa ana was really good and gave a 1 year unlimited milage warranty and set it up for what i wanted it for the burb mud truck im happy so for lots of torque.I can idle over alot of stuff i needed gas for with the old 350 but you pay at the pump$$$. And then you need all new acc stuff exhaust manifolds headers and new pipes to connect everything because its different than the small block.there is alot of nikle and dime stuff, plus the coolong system list goes on and on
2200 out the door new flywheel, water pump, balanced, complete long block with the intake installed ready to rock and roll.
I would look into doig a 383 will run just as hard and live longer probably and cheaper because you already have everyhting for a small block.

I have a guy here in the valley that will hot tank it and bore it .30 over. I can get the rest of the parts from PAW and rebuild it myself. I was asking because I didn't have a catalog in the house from Summit or PAW and sometimes a lot of you guys have already done it.

The only reason going to the 454 is to have fuel injection. I am getting a burb dirt cheap if I want it to rebuild the engine and take what I need from it.

Is this 454 going into your blazer? If so you do know that you need to go to the referee to have it smogged initially since you line in California. Also the engine has to be the same year or newer than the vehicle it's going into and must also retain the more stringent emissions equipment.
