So I'm doing the fix to tighten up the shifter in my '66 C20 with the SM420. It doesn't have the tack welds like shown on the stuff I've seen for the SM465.

Looks like maybe there was a roll pin in there before and someone already welded up. Or the factory did that. It seems tight but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to weld it up around the top like the usual fix.

My other question is this lower roll pin:

It seems too small but I've seen other pictures that look similar. Is it supposed to be like that or should I replace it with a larger pin?

Isn't there some o-rings on the lower stub, as in if you push the roll pin out and remove the stub? You should be able to tighten that up some...

I can't believe you're the only one that's offered to help! If I posted I was going to swap out the SM420 for a TH350 the usual gear jammers would have been all over this thread like stink on poop. But if a fella needs actual help with a 3-pedal setup, it's like crickets.

So here's what I ended up doing. I went ahead and welded up the half-sphere to the collar. The picture is after a little grinding because the welding was ugly with the oil contamination.

You are correct about the o-rings. It looks like some sort of hard plastic, reminds me of the crap you find in the oil pump pickup from a factory installed timing chain. Needless to say it was all busted up.

Some guys have welded that stub piece to the rest of the stick but I was worried about messing something up. Plus I figure that nylon plastic stuff is there to limit vibration which is the main reason I wanted to do this. So instead I put 2 o-rings in each slot. 2 because I didn't have a really thick o-ring that would have worked best.

Made a huge improvement in the noise/rattle coming through the stick. It also tightened up the play.

Oh shut it cranky pants, had choir concerts to attend

I bet you could add o rings and fix that like a 465...

I don't think that is the style @skunked was referring to, but if you do the bicycle brake lever on the stick, and parallel it with the adjustable twist one, you'd be pimp'in BIG TIME!
That would corn-fuse someone!

Geez noob you only wait 9 hours before complaining that no one got to your thread! Lol.

Some people have lives outside of CK5.

Glad you figured something out.

Just occurred to me I should have posted my questions in Baba's thread. Then I would have gotten a ton of responses.

But then it would have been me saying something about the tightness of your tranny stick. And it wound go down hill from a there.
