Need more cooling

Was the hi-flow t-stat and water pump on the motor in the other car? I have heard of coolant passing too fast thru a radiator (like with no t-stat at all) preventing it from having enough time to cool down.

Did you ever get a gauge? This should be the first thing to do otherwise you're guessing, wasting time and potentially causing damage.

Everything is the same as other car. I pulled out T-stat just to check if maybe it wasnt opening. By this weekend I'll have gauge hooked up. I also need to work on leaking power steering and now an intermittent miss. The 2 plugs I pulled looked kinda white.

I don't think a pusher fan is a good idea for the most part.

Later on GM did add them to certain vehicles, but I believe that was typically in an area that wasn't covered by the stock fan.

The problem with a pusher over a puller is that no matter what, they will end up "fighting" each other in one way or another.

White plugs are lean, right?

In any case, if the engine worked fine in the car, then EVERYTHING that changed between the car and truck install (carb as one instance?) is a possible culprit.

But nothing changed when I swapped the motor... except hoses, belts, mounts, and such. I will get out the tuning DVD that came with the Barry Grant Speed Demon carb and tune it, check the ignition system, and cooling and hopefully find something than can be fixed.

If nothing on the motor changed, how about the truck?

Different weight? - Heavier
Different Aero?- Like a brick
Different Gears? - Car to truck
Different Tranny?- TH350/TH400

I know the pusher fan will not help most likely. A stock clutch and fan with shroud works best.

Check the bottom hose, it could be collapsing (you said that changed)
Try a new t-stat, some have been known to be bad out of the box

Lastly make sure you are running a 50/50 mix or less coolant to water. Water has the best heat transfer. I run a 20/80 or 30/70 mix in everything. It lets it not freeze down to about 0*. Fine for VA.

Hope it helps,
John
