Need more heat

what t-stats is everyone using? i thought i swapped in a 180*, but whenever i drive the truck a bunch, it never gets over ~160. is that warm enough to get good heat? i think my blower relay is bad cuz nothing is working (no a/c, no defrost, no heat), but i just wanted to see what t-stat everyones' running, cuz im pretty sure they got 195* stock

Put the 195 back in, no reason for the 180 IMHO

More than likely its the thermostat, possibly has to do with the a/c because with the heater on it will cycle the a/c pump i dont know why, it just does. I had the same thing happen to my 84 i replaced the water pump and thermostat, went to a 180 degree and pulled off the a/c pump all at once and the heater never worked again after that. Would not even get warm so its one of those thats your problem, mine ran super cool with a 180 in it and would barely move the needle on the guage i was going to put a 195 back in it but never got around to it before i sold it.

yea the truck doesnt get over 160* with my 180 tstat so i doubt the heat will be any good with it

it cycles the AC compressor when you have it on defrost setting, to help remove moisture from the air, drying the windshield. it shouldn't cycle the compressor on any other setting. and as long as you have the heater on HOT, even the freon running through the evap won't cool it down that much.

if you lose your heat when your hard on the gas pedal, you have blend door problems, or lack of vacuum control,,,mine would do this on a previous car, you lose vacuum under hard acceleration, and the blend doors opened up due to this, letting cool air in along with closing the heater control valve,,,,(which has been dabated to be existant on trucks,,,mine has it)

Hey heres a question i have not give any thought to when doing my motor swap i took my AC pump out and the condenser and extra rubber hoses and the ac radiator(small one in front of the radiator) and to night i took the my dash pad off and i see a ac core (i guess) in the middle upper part of my dash? i say im getting cold air when foot is on padel so does this have anything to do with the cold air?

No.

But did you hook the vacuum line back up that controls the blend door? Some but not all have this feature on the AC equipped trucks. If yours has it and that vacuum line is disconnected you will never get heat....unless you set the truck on fire

sorry guys i started a new job today so i been behind on things.

good news is i found the vic line to the dash and plug it up it has made a difference but still not putting me out of the truck. going to try some cardboard on the raditor.
oh and my job is at most 5 mins from home so the truck really have time to get to temp.

its going to becold all week so i'll be lookin in to it!
