i lost my keys to my 89 pontiac bonneville:mad: and by lost i mean somewhere on the road or in a fire pit, long story. well i need to know 1. if the 89 model cars had the small pass theft 1 key or whatever it was called and 2 who do i get to re key my door keys and ignition keys? COST? thanks guys luckily i get to drive the k5 instead woohoo:D

Lost my keys few years back to my 94 pont. Grand am. I went to local dealer w/title and they cut two sets. If i remember it cost around 20-30 bucks.sorry man not sure cost i just dont remember.

I think 89 might be to old to do that.

I'm not sure if all Pontiacs got a VATS key in 89 (I know the Firebird did, but not the Camaro). Do you rember if yours had a chip in it? No chip=no VATS.

I'd buy new lock cylinders. Doors are easy to change out. Take door pannel off, pop the clip off and slide cylinder out. Ignition is a little more involved and requires a special tool. I made a reply in a post awhile back about how to do it, it was fairly detailed. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I never had a bonneville, but i've owned an '89 buick lesabre, an '89 olds 88, and an '88 buick lesabre (which are all the same chassis as the bonne) and none of them had chipped keys. The newer body style did, though.

If you pop the passenger side cylinder and take it to a locksmith, they can cut a key for you, the numbers on it will tell them all the info they need to make it for both the door and the ignition if it was the same key.
The driver side for some reason doesn't have the numbers:confused:

i can get 2 new door locks, keys amd a new ignition cylinder with keys for about 30 bucks rather than having someone do it for $75. i just dont want to get in over my head on this one

It's real easy to do. The hardest part is getting the door pannels off usually. When doing the ignition cylinder, if you don't drop anything down the column, it's real easy. The parts only go in one way.

If it's like an S10 you will need a special tool to reassemble the column. It's pretty cheap tool that pushes everything back down so you can reinstall a round clip on the column.
