I tried to look at how big mine are, but it wouldn't say. They are smaller than a floppy and take about 4 or 5 min to download on a dial up. Just FYI if you wondered.

Must have removed it, eh, Theresa? I checked out the site, no wav files

It's a great site, but know what you mean about wanting more. Has to be a way to compress the .wav file.............

was that 7732 bytes or 7732 kbytes? 7000 bytes is miniature, many web pages are around 3000 bytes, so it should only take about 2x as long to download at the client side.

I checked again
It was 4.96 mb
Huge.

I want to put a small wav file on the front page.

An AC/DC song or something

or what would you consider a cool wav to put on the front page and where do I get it?

I don't want the site to take too long to load.

Arggg. I think I'm addicted.
I'm going to have such a hard time this winter with no new pictures so i got to think of things to keep updating the site.

It started out as a fun thing 6 months ago

I'm already at 50MB . I'm going to need to look for a new host soon

I also grabbed www.whiteknight.ca ( easier to remember )
so I'll probably switch it over some time this winter once I figure out what I'm doing :)

Convert the wav to an MP3 .... that's if an MP3 can be queued up to execute when the page loads??

that 5MB .wav file should convert to <1MB in .mp3 format

Use an mp3 they are much smaller, and maybe take it into a wav editor, like Sound Forge, and make it just a sample that loops. You could get it down to 1 mg or less

Also, I do this for a living, please, please put a button in there that allows the user to turn it off. Nothing is more anoying to a web user than a song they can't turn off. They will end up leaving your site in frustration. Almost as bad as having a horizontal scroll bar on the page.

Send me a PM if you need more help than that.

Also, if you are using a free site for the 50mg's try signing up for another one, using another name and e-mail address. That way you can mirror that site look the same as the first one as far as layout and color, and call the url instead of the path directory.
Then you will have 100mg's

Who's your host with 50mb?? I'm only getting 20 mb with freeservers (on a free package)!! I don't think you can do the mirroring with them, though. They block direct file access without thier script putting an ad in the file first... (although this seems to be selective, sometimes it'll error, sometimes it won't).

For the wav file, you can cut it down in size a lot by deleting one channel (going mono), downsampling it (22KHz is decent for web), then converting to MP3...

I used to have a door slamming, engine starting and revving, then tire squeal and driving away on one of my old pages. It would load with the page and play only once, it came out pretty neat, and it was less than 100k...
